Dev Anand's upcoming film Chargesheet seems to be based on the mystery about Divya Bharti's death. Divya, who shot to stardom in the early nineties, died on April 5, 1993, when she fell from her five-story flat in Mumbai's Versova area. The subsequent media frenzy about her death suggested every possibility from an accidental death to suicide or murder. The police closed all investigations in 1998 but the reason of her death still remains a mystery. Certain media reports have suggested it was an accident that she suffered in an inebriated state.

In Chargesheet, Divya Dutta plays Minnie, a popular actress who is suddenly found dead one day. Her death stuns everyone and the cops probe the matter but fail to find out whether it was a suicide, accident or murder. Dev Anand's film bears another uncanny resemblance beyond the storyline and the commonality of first name that its heroine bears with the late actress. In Chargesheet, Jackie Shroff will portray Minnie's filmmaker boyfriend Mahesh. In real life, at the time of her death, Divya Bharti was reportedly in relationship with hotshot producer Sajid Nadiadwala. The 87-year-old Dev Anand will play the investigative officer hero Gambhir Singh who will reopen the case and will finally crack it.
