    The film " The Kid" ( a film of 6 reels) projects the rapport between a orphan child, deserted by his unmarried mother and a tramp. The child is rescued from dustbin by the tramp who fosters him. At the age of five the child is taught to break window-glass that his foster-father comes to mend. The film is called, " A picture with a smile-perhaps a tear." Who can forget the performance of Jackie Coogan as the child ??

    1915--'22 was the underlining period in Chaplin's film career. It was during this phase, he introduced his legendary image of the tramp. His evolution as a creator came about through his films like , " The Tramp", " The Vagabond", " The Bank", " The Count Behind the Screen", " The Rink", " Easy Street", " The Adventure", " Shoulder Arms" are a few to reckon with.

    In 1914 Chaplin made 35 films in collaboration with Kingstone Films. " Making A Living" was his debutant as an actor. These films ranged from one to six reels. Out of these, 13 were made by other directors. Subsequently, Charlie himself shouldered the tasks of directing. This phase is known as the " Apprentice period" of his life. " Cruel Cruel Love", " Caught in the Rain", " A Busy Day", " Mabel's Married Life" are some of the brilliant films of this phase.

    The Chaplins were the Protestant in religion. Chaplin's forefathers fled from France to England, as forcible conversion into Catholic was in practice in France. Charles Chaplin's film " Pilgrim" airs an approach against Roman Catholic, made in a tone of lampoon.
