Based on the novel of Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Chayamoy depicts the picture of a village called Shimulgarh. One person named Indraparatap lands in the village of Shimulgarh where he is caught thieving something from the house of Gagon Sapui. Everyone is interested in the bag of the “thief” particularly Gagon Sapui. All of a sudden a chaotic situation took place as the villagers gather. Amongst the villagers is one tantric, Kalikapalik who informs about his prediction of the thief’s fate of getting trapped in the trouble out of error. After much discussion regarding the theft, one of the goons of Gagon Sapui, Lakhhon is ordered to take the thief to the field of Rathtala.

As Lokkon takes him to the field “Chayamoy” appears and introduces himself as a ghost and asks the goon to release Indraprata. Lokkhin returns to the village’s very own astrologer Rambabu to talk about this existing ghost when Rambabu informs everyone present there about a person who has “two Left Hands”. In the meantime Gagon Sapui also orders another of his goons Pitambar to not allow Kalikapalik do the talking about the incident as he knows that Gagon Sapui is the culprit who is trying to snatch away the Gold Coins which belong to Chandrakumar and their family. Indrapratap who is a librarian in London comes to this village in search of these coins which he read in a book of Chandrakumar. Chayamoy tells Haripada in a dream to rescue Indrapratap and unmask Gagon Sapui.

As Chandra Kumar and Mahendra Pratap reveal that Indrapratap happens to be their successor the villagers get hold of indarpratap, snatch away the coins and take him to the jungle. Indrapratap discloses his intention of developing the condition of the village with that wealth. Sapui orders Pitambar to kill Indrapratap and gives ten thousand rupees as a bribe.

It is the story this village people who are in search of a truth. Does Chayamoy exist? Will Indrapratap be killed or will he able to bring light to the darkness? Will the person with “two Left Hands” get revealed? The film talks about the age old battle of truth and lie with the super natural element being instrumental to bring truth to the light.
