Debutant director Aniket Chattopadhyay has started his career by a comedy and so no doubt he is 50 percent successful. The percentage would be higher if he could cut the length of his film at least 20mins. It’s a long-long-long movie. Two and a half an hour length comedy is a pretty long affair.
A few years back a technician fell from a highest while shouting and instantly died. This real incident is the take off moment of the film’s story. After this sad incident what could the poor actors and director do? The answer to this question in Aniket’s film is that – make a trip to a beach to unmind. So, a group of TV actors goes out for a 4-day vacation is Bakkhali.
The actors here play the roles in their real names. Rudranil Ghosh, Shilajit, Anjana Basu, Kharaj Mukherjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Locket Chatterjee, Rajesh Sharma, Debshankar Halder debutant Dona Das and Kunal Mitra.
Kunal’s real death jeopardized the shooting in the midday. But major three sequences were left. Then suddenly Aniket met a technician from south who once saved a film after the death of Dibya Bharati. Aniket took the tips and finished his job without Kunal, but no body in the audience would understand the absence of Kunal. He meticulously indentified the N.G shots of Kunal, juxtaposed it with a different background, changed the costume color by applying CG and then using a dummy actor back to the camera – and thus created the presence of dead man. This unique in any standard of cinema. Sreekanta Acharya, the noted singer dubbed the voice and he did a splendid job.
The comedy of the film is basically situational where all the actors have done extremely good job. Basically its acting, which keeps the audience quiet.
Though the actors have played the roles in their real name, but the inner chemistry of these characters are fake. It is very difficult to create such characters which and half real- half fake. All the actors, including debutant Dona, have got distinction makes in this tough exam.
Three are two Rabindra Sangeet in the film and two other songs. Though one Rabindra Sangeet is redundant, but three other songs are well applied. Camera work is good, specially the night sequence in the beach.
