Bade Miya to Bade Miya, Chote Miya Subhan Allah :

Now a days many times when I am watching a Hindi film in cinema halls I keep wondering for which audience is this film made for ? The director has either copied the script from some international film, or its remake of some Indian classic film, or blender of Indian and international film, etc etc. Of course there are many film which we like, we enjoy and at times can relate with it too. But there are very few times when I see a film where I can feel that yes this film is made for me. Yes! me who is paying money to watch the film and who represent majority of India. It’s very easy to make copied, inspired, grand, realistic, etc types of films in compared to simple films. I remember a quote of Shri Raj Kapoor after the release of Mera Naam Joker “it’s very easy to make a hit film, but it’s very tough to make a good film”. So lets find out in which category does Chintuji belong.

Chintuji is a story people of a fictitious village Hadbahedi, whose residents feel that their village needs to be recognized. They come to know that Actor Rishi Kapoor {Rishi Kapoor}was born in this village and was nicknamed out there as Chintuji. They decide to invite the actor and felicitate him. On other side Chintuji wants to start his political career and thus reaches Hadbahedi along with his PR agency executive Devika { Kulraj Randhawa}. Chintuji starts throwing his star tantrums which creates a living hell for the people of Hadbahedi. Despite all this they still love him and treat him with total love and care. Chintuji starts taking advantage of it and is joined by his film producer {Saurabh Shukla} and his team to shoot in the village with villagers working for them in free of cost. At that moment of time Chintuji is approached by a Political power broker Amar Sanghvi {Annu Kapoor} who wants to get Chintuji associated with his district and in return will satisfy the greed of the actor. What happens next is to be seen and not read.

Story is simple yet quite unique and most important fresh. Screenplay is very good and interesting. The writers have tried to club in many good situations and have also captured the different angle to the story by showing simple and truthful life of the villagers which is total contrast to the life of the actor. Some of the scenes are so good that one cannot forget them for ages. For e.g. The Rishi Kapoor Cutout scene, Rishi-Doctor story sitting, Villagers Pampering Chintuji and keeping fast to purify their sins, the whole Shooting chapter and last but not the least Mera Naam Joker tribute by Russian actress Sana Ksenirabinkina. There were few scenes which could had been avoided, it would had made the movie crisper. Thus Editing is good but as said earlier could had been bit better.

On Production values the movie is bit let down in terms of Location, Camera work etc. But it did work out at one point, which is using of new actors who suited in the roles of simple villagers perfectly thus highlighting the main characters.

Music is good and two songs are fantastic. One is “Chai Ke Bahane” a sweet romantic song and another is the tribute to best directors of the world “Akira Kurosawa”. Full marks to lyricist Ranjeet Kapoor to write this song. Now that called total filmy.
Director Ranjeet Kapoor is an bundle of talent. He has proved his work starting with T.V serials of 80’s-90’s inc Kille Ka Rahasya and more. The man who is part of creative writing of Jaane Bhi do Yaaron, Khamosh, Kabhi haan Kabhi naa and more tries his luck as an director in this film. Its takes guts to attempt such type of subject which is so simple and yet difficult. Something similar on base level was tried in a film called Billu which failed miserable to touch ones heart. But out here not only it touches you but also makes you want to go to such simple and truthful village.

On Performance basis Hats off to Rishi Kapoor to even attempt for such kind of role. His character is out and out negative in 90% of the film. If it’s an fictitious character it does not matter, but when you are playing yourself this can work out in negative manner also. thus till date almost all actors who have played themselves have played a safe and positive image. In the movie the Russian actress Sana Ksenirabinkina says to Rishi Kapoor that he looks like his father Raj Kapoor. I will say in this film he did remind me of Shri Raj Kapoor the great actor. New Comer Kulraj Randhawa looks very sweet and charms you with her innocence and grace. She is someone you should definitely watch out for. It was good to see Priyanshu in this film, he is one such talented actor who suits properly in such kind of roles. Saurabh Shukla, Annu Kapoor and others were good. Special mention to the villagers who have lifted the level of film by their simplicity in acting.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hain Kaafi Dum hain infact kaafi jagah pe dumdaar hain. So going with Shri Raj Kapoors words even this movie proves that it’s tough to make a simple film. there was a time when we use to lead a simple life and on screen we use to love watching larger than life type films, but now when we have a fast paced modern life it’s a treat to watch films like Chintuji and Welcome to Sajjanpur etc. I won’t say this is best film of Rishi Kapoor, as he has performed much better than this earlier and also there is loads of stuff still to watch out for. Sadly his talent is not being squeezed in proper manner, same like what had happened with Amitabh bachchan when he started his third innings and later went on to give some of his fantastic performance. We expect the same from Rishi Kapoor as this film might be the starting stone to his next level of journey. So watch out for more as bade miya to bade miya, chote miya bhi subhan allah.
