Chirodini…..Tumi Je Amar (CTJA) had a pre-release publicity that it deals with Rizwanur-Priyanka love story. It releases the day after High court declares its verdict regarding the case. So the stage was set-up with a considerable amount of hype and the Venkatesh Films supported the hype by releasing a huge amount of print and electrical publicity.
Director Raj Chakraborty is brave enough to take two debutants Rahul and Priyanka in the two lead roles. But he is not brave enough to tackle a love-story between a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl like Rizwanur and Priyanka. So two here in CTJA the teenage love-story is between two Hindus, one is a daughter of a rich and influential businessman and the other is a poor garage mechanic. Her name is Pallabi, and his name is Krishna. So from the beginning the story seems an age-old love-story between a poor boy and a rich girl.
The film starts with both the lovers leaving the town for settling a new life. Flash-backs from their own perspectives come during the bus journey from Siliguri to Kolkata. Through the flash backs we come to know how the love affair begins between the two.
Initially the film was refreshing with two new faces and the out door setting. Premendu Bikash Chaki’s camerawork and Rabiranjan Moitra’s edit pattern gave the film out- of the will look and feel. Even when the two protagonists came to Kolkata the screenplay was so unique that boredom never grasps us. The typical bachelor’s den, where both Pallabi and Krishna took shelter, is beautifully arranged and picturised.
The story line was well designed up to the marriage of the two lovers. But after that both the director and the screenplay writer were both confused how to end the crisis, would they follow the original Rizwanur-Priyanka tale or to find a new way? They preferred the later and that killed the film.
We find the goons almost killed the boy and even after marriage the girl forget her love for the boy and happily married again. We find her in the back seat of the scooter with her little son and new husband in the driving seat. She saw her earlier love Krishna has become a total mad.
The two leading artistes are both at case in front of the camera. But in between the two Rahul is better. Tamal Roy Chowdhury as the girl’s father in very-very loud, so as Geeta De, but outstanding performance we get from a child artiste Aritra, who has become known to everybody due to his performance in a reality show with Mithun Chakraborty. The scene between Aritra and Rudranil Ghosh is the best in the two hour long teenage love-story.
The films most sufferings come from the music and the song-sequences. The dream song sequences were not only disturbing but hamper the mood of the film. The bathroom sequence in the Kolkata mess Juxtaposed with the bath tub-sequence in the Mumbai band-stand really shatters the earlier tempo.
