Mr. Jethia was the proprietor of a jute mill. He was a dishonest person and had high connections which he used to his advantage. Once there was a strike in his mill and the workers agitated with the help of their trade union leader Jadunath (Om Puri), a man with political leanings. Jethia tried to break their unity and he strategised to suppress Jadunath. He sent some criminals to the slums and got men murdered. After that Jethia came to know about the murder of his younger brother and the manager. He thought that it was Jadunath who had murdered them and got Jadunath imprisoned. The court then gave orders to hang Jadunath. In jail Jadunath desired to donate his eyes to a worker. Jethia’s only son suffered from blindness. But at the same time a blind worker Chedilal also needed eyes. Another worker of the hospital (Shyamananda Jalan) tried to give those eyes to Chedilal. The worker was the former driver of Jethia and he knew everything. He shared all the details with the doctor who was going to operate. When Jethia came to know the eyes belonged to Jadunath, he refused to take those eyes. What finally happened to the visions of these people is what the movie is about.
