In Hollywood there are film makers who are associated with making movies based on mafia. Viewers expect the film makers touch in all the movies, sometime they get satisfied some time they don’t. In India we have ‘Ram Gopal Varma’, who has given us few of great underworld based movies like Satya, Company, D, Ab tak Chappan, etc. So when ‘RGV’ come back with fresh starcast in his favourite topic, his name is enough for one to expect some fireworks. Unfortunately this time the name turns out to be the big damp for the movie.
‘Contract’ is story of a Commando Aman [Adhvik Mahajan], who prefers his family more than his duty for the country. In one terrorist attack he looses his wife and daughter. This shatters his whole world and decided to join special investigation officer Ahmed Hussain [Prasad Purandare], who wants to plant Aman as Amaan in the gang of underworld don RD [Sumeet Nijhawan] and with his help reach terrorist Sultan [Zakir Hussain]. On instruction of Ahmed Hussain to gain popularity in RD’s gang Aman emerges as the next underworld menace that finishes the opposite gang of Goonga [Upendra Limaye]. RD’s sister [Sakshi Gulati] falls in love with Aman, who shares the truth with her on their final mission to meet Sultan. But will Aman succeed in destroying Sultan and his nexus?
Music of this movie is far below average. Its shame to see the RGV, who gave us musical hits and also in action oriented movies provided good music, started detoriating and now finally totally lost it. Story is typical underworld drama and has nothing new to offer. The movie and screenplay moves on thin line. The raw ness of underworld was missing. Too many cinematic liberties were taken. Besides few scenes there was no intensity in the story and screenplay. Climax was totally predicted and does not go with the theme of the movie.
Ram Gopal Varma’s direction looked weak in this movie. In few scenes you do wonder that is it directed by him or his assistant. The mark of his fines was missing. If his name was dissociated with this film, the movie might have got few positive point of worth mentioning. The characters were too filmy rather than being real.
On performance side new comer Adhvik Mahajan fails to impress as Amaan. By growing beard one does not become a serious actor. Intensity does not come by looks, but by performance. Sakshi Gulati has nothing to offer in this small role. Coming to the supporting performance, Prasad Purandare delivers a good performance; Sumeet Nijhawan as RD looked and performed great. Zakir Hussain and Upendra Limaye did justice to their role.
So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???”
Kutch Khaas dum nahin hain. As they say everyday is not Sunday. Same way all RGV’s underworld based movies are not great. There are some which are weak. “Contract” goes in the league of the latter type of movie. Overall it’s nothing but just a weak deal for everyone.
