So very UNCOOL
For all the new age sensibilities that Hindi cinema has brought in since the last couple of years, comedy is one genre where we seem to be going only downhill with each passing fare.
Director K Murali Mohan Rao has made some decent masla flicks in the 90’s & Indra Kumar’s name too generates some excitement who has tickled our funny bones quite a lot. However, Daddy Cool shall be remembered as a film with comedy at it’s all time low. Adultery, slapstick, toilet humour - It uses every joke in the joke book and yet fails to make us laugh. Perhaps that’s a testimony to how much worn out these gimmicks have become.
There is such a large ensemble cast, but most of them are seen wandering around adding nothing to the fun, if there was any at first place, The film has countably 4 laughrts through out, Thanks to Aftab Shivdasani. Otherwise it's as funny as Amrish Puri in a drag.
Be it Javed Jaffrey, Chunky Pandey or Ashish Chowdhary, everybody is at his hamming best, which has made them work somewhat at comedy all these years. But it just doesn’t click this time. Adding salt to the injury, the makers have brought this emotional angle which actually ends up making us cringe & laugh unintentionally. There is nothing else to boast abt it.
We may have films like, Kaminey & Love Aaj Kal working well with the audience but it's high time we did something with the comedy genre too. Otherwise the time would not be far, where our comedy would be a laughing stock for everyone… Unintentionally of course.
