Damadol? Well what does it mean? Does it sound like a fun film ? Does it sound like Hulla Bol? Yes, it is indeed a situational, wacky comedy starring mostly newcomers barring Samadarshi Dutta and Priyanka and it is about three girls and three boys and their lives. It is about mistaken identities, hilarious confusions and brilliant comic situations which makes it
a complete ‘Hulla Bol’.
The film is essentially about 3 friends Aditya(Samadarshi), Nikhil(Saheb) and Rajdeep(VJ) who all have their own set of problems. Aditya is an aspiring filmmaker and has a dream project, but has no producer to back him and won’t accept help from his rich father. He has a girl friend who is an air hostess. Nikhil works in a I.T company and desperately wants to get married. VJ works in an Airtel shop and secretly admires Ria and sends her a poem everyday through a messenger. Other than all these characters, what makes the film special is the character of Pappu Bhai played by Saswata . Now here is one actor who just amazes us everyone time we see him on scree. Here he plays a comic don who has teeth plucked out from people who can’t pay up! His den is an unique den with unique characters and appearances who have names like AXN, FTV,Aastha, Colours etc. There are several one liners which end up with rhymes evolving around this characters which makes the film hilarious. Though the plot can’t be revealed more, yet what makes this film is the bonding and close friendship which the three friends share and it stays with them throughout. Add a comic don like Pappu Bhai to the script specially when the ‘Bhai’ is Saswata and you have hilarious results. There is also this character who keeps on appearing from time to time as different characters. O.P.Nayyar’s grand daughter Niharica Raizada has performed an item number in this film.
All the guys-Samadarshi, Saheb and Rajdeep are good in their own respective ways specially Saheb with his gay act. Barring Priyanka who is natural as Rhea, the other girls, Anindita Banerjee and Gunjan Daryanani are newcomers and might seem to be the only weak links of the film though Gunjan plays Tania , an actress with accented Bengali. The film has it’s
sad and happy moments and the film works mainly because of the youth centric tale, the performances and ‘Pappu Bhai’.
The film has been produced by Ajay Jhunjhunwala of Morpheus and after his last film ‘Thana Theke Aaschi’, this is again one film which is completely different from the rest. Kudos to Manoj Michigan, the director and Ajay Jhunjhunwala.
