Story Kam Effects Jyaada…..
A South Indian Dubbed film in Hindi is a process which has been going on from so many years. We have two types of section for such films, one which contains classics films like Roja, Bombay, Appu Raja, Velu Nayakan, Anjali and many more which either has good story or fantastic music. On other side there are mindless action flicks like Indra the Tiger, Bajrang the He-Man. The latter one is to satisfy the low class masses who love to watch masala movies. Enters Kamal Hasan’s Dashavtar which has the hero in 10 different get ups and characters, so let’s find out where does it stand among the both dubbed movies categories ?
“Dashavtar” is story of Dr.Govinda [Kamal Hassan] who has made a deadly Bio Virus which can destroy an entire nation. He fears of it getting in hands of terrorist organization thus tries to take it to F.B.I, but his senior’s and a ex-CIA Officer [Kamal Hasaan] tries to stop him and thus Govinda gets framed as a terrorist. Govinda Reaches India and hides the Virus in a Parcel which later goes inside the idol of lord Krishna. In India along with FBI, Bad Guys RAW agent [Kamal Hassan] is also after him. Govinda tries to dodge everyone along with Radha [Asin] and tries to save the world from the deadly virus. But Nature has its own way and that’s what happens in the end.
Story is quite simple to nil in this movie. At times the movie just keeps going on and on without any new development in the script. Screenplay is bit better and involvement of new characters one by one keeps you glued to the screen as well as confuse too. The action and chase keeps going on and on at times which leaves the viewers restless. Climax is something unpredictable and different, it tries to join all the loose ends. Camera work is quite average and at times bit amateurish [in the animated scenes, the stadium scenes, the crowd scenes and many].
Music by Himesh Reshamiya is average. Besides one or two songs nothing to boost about. Same goes with the background score too.
Director K.S.Ravikumar has done lots of hard work in this film, but at times has even cut grass. Usage of more chase scenes dilutes the effect of the film. Though the pace is maintained but still could have been crispier. The director has tried to give each and every character great looks along with dialect and style, wish he had done bit more hard work in the screenplay. Still a great effort.
Kamal Hasaan rocks in his gets ups. It’s too tough to imagine him in such get ups and characters. Asin is good, but at times bit loud. Malika Sherawat and Jaya Prada along with others are good support.
So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai dum ?
Dum hain, Sp.Effects mein kaafi dum hain. But story and screenplay are so weak and monotonous that the whole hard work gets diluted. Though this movie might not be in the classes’ choice nor masses choice due to mindless actions, but might settle for combo of both. I remember the lines from rangeela which can be modified out here as “ Kya Sp.Effects pe hi kharcha kiya kya, story screenplay pe nahin”. Still worth a watch for all the hard work, sp.effects and time pass masala entertainment.
