Debika Mukhopahdya was born in Kolkata on July 18th, 1958. Her nick name is Mome. Her father’s Pataki Mukhopadhay and mother was Amala Mukhopadhay.
At first she was a student of Duff School later she joined Bagbazar Multipurpose Girl School from where she passed her Higher Secondary Exam in 1974. She was admitted in Bethune college, but could not continue with her studies. She made her debut film in “Fariyad” in 1971 directed by Bijoy Bose. In that film she acted along with Suchitra Sen and Utpal Dutta. She acted in many films. Her major were Tapan Sinha’s “Bancharamer Bagan” , Amal Palekar’s “An Kanhi”, Anjan Chowdhury’s “Chhoto Bou” etc.
For “Ankanhi’ she won the Best Supporting Actress award in 1989 and in 1991 she received the Best Actress Award for “Chhoto Bou” from BFJA. Apart from film acting she has also acted in many commercial stages, Radio and Television. For “Chhoto Bou” she received a Gold Disc from Gathani Record Company for the commercial success of the dialogue cassette of the film. She went to Verna Film Festival, Bulgaria for her film “Dulia” directed by Saikat Bhattacharya. She got married in 1992.
