Well- its about time now to talk abt the 'much talked about' film i saw last night- My Verdict : Good BUT sadly NOT Great !!!
Viewers were supposedly expecting a lot from Rakeysh RDB Omprakash Mehra of late- well i mean a LOT !!! He has definitely made the film with a lot of heart BUT unfortunately it lacked the SOUL. The director had a nice story to tell with a couple of nicely woven characters who did their level best to save the film. Atul Kulkarni as GOBAR, Divya Dutta as JALEBI, Vijay Raaz as the inspector, Deepak Dobriyal as MAMDU and the likes of Om Puri and Pawan Malhotra were amazing! Guys, you are sure to love them even when u dont love the film. Waheeda Rehman is a darling as always [gawd, how much she reminds me of LAMHE days!!] Rishi Kapoor ka kya kehna- perhaps when Abhishek Bachchan was looking at one of his photographs (in this one particular scene) was wondering- "what if.. i had Rishi Chachu's loverboy looks" Poor Aby Baby- post-marriage days have NOT been very cool for his acting career.. Inspite of having a lot of potential, he is largely wasted in this film. Poor Roshan remains a character-too confused, unexplored and under-utilized !! Abhishek's character doesnt unfold at all with the film- The resultant residue : is a real one-dimensional soul-less character.
Sonam "Sawaariya" Kapoor -its high time you realize that 'acting' is NOT really your forte. When will you wake up Baby ? Pls do.....
The film's strong point is its MUSIC. I wont be exaggerating if i say- the MUSIC stirred my soul..!!! Yes, it did BIG time.. A.R. Rahman proves yet again he is the undefeated King of Chartbusters!!
The film has its good points, had a good story to tell, had the strong emotions but it lacked a tight screenplay and a sense of proper direction.. Somehow it goes haywire when one tries to grab it. I am somehow left to ponder over a single fact- When a Director makes a film with all his true intensions and then watches the film on its pilot run- doesnt he put himself in a viewer's shoe and see through the shortcomings ? Or is he too biased and self-engrossed to self-criticize??
One is forced to admit that a film which has been made with a lot of heart, love and true convictions fall short of a viewer's expectations of it. The film has a heart-warming tale to tell but lacks the fierce soul to encompass it! Mr Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra- This is sadly a wake up call for you !!
