Delhi 6 is a great attempt by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to capture India, in its myriad forms. When a filmm-maker makes a film based on his convictions and wants to convey a message, it's unlikely that everyone will like it. When I went to watch Delhi 6, I had already read most of the reviews and some of them had very little good to say about the movie. This movie proves once again, how important it is, to watch the movie and decide for yourself, rather than follow a handful of critics with their own inherent biases, as someone's Slumdog is another person's millionaire.

"Zarre Zarre Mein Usi Ka Noor Hai
Jhak Khud Mein Woh Na Tujhse Door Hai
Ishq Hai Usse To Sab Se Ishq Kar
Is Ibadat Ka Yehi Dastoor Hai"

The plot started following these lines. Well this film is not like a typical hindi film we all can expect. And why should we expect a typical formula based commercial hindi film from the director who is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra? Yes it’s true that after Rang De Basanti, many were expecting another film which will attract youth again. But let me tell you guys, this director was brave enough to make the film like ... » read more

Well- its about time now to talk abt the 'much talked about' film i saw last night- My Verdict : Good BUT sadly NOT Great !!!

Viewers were supposedly expecting a lot from Rakeysh RDB Omprakash Mehra of late- well i mean a LOT !!! He has definitely made the film with a lot of heart BUT unfortunately it lacked the SOUL. The director had a nice story to tell with a couple of nicely woven characters who did their level best to save the film. Atul Kulkarni as GOBAR, Divya Dutta as JALEBI, Vijay Raaz as the inspector, Deepak Dobriyal as MAMDU and the likes of Om Puri ... » read more

Rehna tu, hai jaise tu…dheema dheema jhonka, ya phir junoon!

Dilli 6 - Lives up to being a true Rakeysh O.P. Mehra style that I viewed in RDB. The parallels may be few, but significant - Some brilliant music, Ramayana’s plot dove-talied beautifully into the situations, The ‘youthful’ treatment into finding solutions of the very relevant and current issues that we recognize around us, The belief of yourself being the first change agent, Very relatable and honest characters.

I loved it for the treatment of issues like caste system (through Jalebi), religious ... » read more

Like it, but won’t love it.

An NRI Indian coming to India and finds his roots, A Lost and Found love of neighbors with Communal Harmony set in Streets of Delhi, A common man being fooled by Religious Sects, Political Leaders etc. We have seen many movies on the above topics. Delhi 6 is also a combination of all these and more with backdrop of Monkey Man mania which had hit Delhi some time back. But is this movie something different or the same as usual stuff we have seen it many times. Let’s find it out.

Delhi 6 is exactly that - an attempt that has been hit for a 6. It pains may to see a directly like R Mehra, assemble a mouth watering star cast, assemble a story line which can dish out a mouth watering fare and finally cook Kichadi.

The problem with the film is that it runs like a collage. Nothing wrong in that per se, but then the cinematographic liberties are far too many to condone. The music is brilliant but leaves one longing for more. In the end, the characters are not developed as they should have been.Sonam is a revelation but not much of her is revealed ... » read more

The film is good in reflecting the day to day life of middle class and lower middle class people in Delhi. Songs are catchy too. But I feel the issue of black monkey is overblown. It hurts the intelligence of the Delhiites, that they are so foolish and fanatic to fight over a monkey that is dubbed a hindu or muslim monkey.
Also the beautiful Sonam did not get enough opportunity to act except crying a lot towards the end. Abhishek tried to speak english with a US accent but his hindi was too good for a NRI.

Delhi 6. A story of the city. Once was. Now is. This is a mirror to the society we live in. The chaos, the happiness, the politics, the culture, the cursory vignettes of life, the deep rooted malpractices, the nuances, the filial spirit, the religious zeal, the pig headedness, the fear social travesty, the ugly infrastructure, the beautiful people, the food, the homes and the will to live!
Every frame is a mixture of what the city and the country provides us at large. Every conversation has an underlying "Indian ness". This was unseen before and this has made the movie ... » read more

I haven't been much of a ROM fan. I had found Aks good but botched up towards the end and RDB had been too extremist for my liking. However, felt that Delhi 6 is the movie where ROM comes of age in the true sense of the word. His messages were intelligent and subtle and each of the artists were chosen with such care that the finished product came together as a natural cohesive whole.

Binod Pradhan's cinematography is lovely. Some of the shots which stay behind with you are : the shot of Jama Masjid at Friday prayer - the sheer ... » read more

The name 'Delhi 6' did not impress me when I was about to see the movie, but I realised during the time I was watching it that it is by far the best movie that I have seen since 2006. Delhi 6 is the postal address of the locality where the movie shaped up where an young NRI came to India to fulfil the wish of his grandmom.
The film shows the typical picture of unity in diversity. The rivalry of the old generation and theaspirations of the younger ones. The castism and the separatism of people by political motive through religion,is shown quite clearly. Butit is also ... » read more
