Whenever we talk of Youth based films in our Hindi cinema, we come up with Teenage Romance, College Romance; Films related to Youth based problems, etc. There are very few films which really show what a youth want and that is FUN. Yes we had films like Dil Chahta Hai or Dil Dosti Etc and few more, but again the Fun was limited to a certain extent. Aamir Khan Productions come up with their latest venture ‘Delhi Belly’ which promises Non – Stop Fun catering to youth and some young by heart type people. So let’s find out whether the Ace producer delivers the promised goods?

“Delhi Belly” is story of three bachelors Tashi {Imraan Khan}, Arun {Vir Das} & Nitin {Kunal Roy Kapoor} staying together in a rotten flat in Delhi. Tashi’s girlfriend Soniya {Shehnaz Treasurywala}, an air hostess favors a friend by couriering their parcel to Delhi. Soniya due to her busy schedule request Tashi to send the parcel to the given address. He passes the parcel to Nitin, who due to stomach upset hands over to Arun. Arun goofs up the parcel and thus the local goons {Vijay Raaz & Gang} of Delhi start chasing them. What happens next is what the entire film about.

Story is very typical treasure or loot chase type. We have witnesses such stories so many times in form of films like Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, 99, Sankat City and many more. All these films had some simple guys getting hold of goons treasure or money; the goons chase them and in end all izz well. But it’s the treatment and the screenplay which holds you in the film, and ya the dialogs with loads of swear words. The film has some great scenes like the opening waking scene, Anushka’s Interview, Imraan at Lunch, Kunal Roy Kapoor at the red light area, Kunal Roy Kapoor stomach upset, Imraan & Poorna Jagannathan at the hotel, Vijay Raaz torturing at the hotel room, Robbery at the jeweler store, Burkha Kissing and few more. These entire scenes are damn funny and hilarious. But on the flip side the absence of story and weak/typical climax spoils the fun. Thank god Aamir Khan comes in the end credits and gets you back in the film, Or else due to weak climax the whole fun gets diluted. The film is barely 90 minutes but still at times one does feel the editor should had been crispier. Camera work is superb and all the locations are fantastic as per the script demand.

Music by Ram Sampat is the biggest U.S.P of this film {besides the Swear words and Adult Jokes}. The film starts with Saigal Blues, which is superb. Later ‘Jaa Chudai’ entertains you with Vir Das tributing his legendary disco king {Aamir Khan}. Aamirs Item number ‘I hate you’ is rocking. Sadly the hit songs like ‘Bhaag Bhaag’, ‘Sweety’ & ‘Nakadwale’ are wasted in background.

Abhinay Deo debuted with ‘Game’ which was a stylish flick, but due to delay and some weak screenplay dint make the mark. But out here Abhinay Deo is brilliantly supported by Akshat Varma and does a decent job. If only the story would have been that great the film had all ingredients to become a classic. Still will be in books due to its funny, bold, titillating and adult jokes {+swear words}.

Imraan Khan is decent and ‘bechaara’ in this film. His swollen eye looks was good. I loved him kissing poorna in the climax. Vir Das was total funny, supported brilliantly by Kunal Roy Kapoor whose farts and constipated looks will be remembered forever. Shehnaz is average. Poorna and Vijay Raaz are good. Aamir’s cameo in item song along with Anushka was enjoyable.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Dum hai saala F@$%ing dum hai, but only for its adult jokes, some hilarious situations and fantastic music. If only the story line would have been bit new or innovative it would have been a classic. Also the film is youth centric and yes they will love it for sure. But family audience and people in interiors might not gel with this film. So, on the end note the film which could have been an F#$%ing three course meal, ends up as an F#$%ing appetizer.
