My Rating

  • Will Department be successful in its mission?

Department rating: 0 out of 10(Pratibha Yadav wrote on 16 May 2012)

The Plot: In order to track the activities of underworld, the top officials of police department chalk out a plan and Sanjay Dutt is given the responsibility to execute the plan. Rana Daggubati assists Sanjay in his mission. With the help of gangster turned politician, they finish off all the underworld activities, but they themselves get into underworld.
Ram Gopal Verma has tried to do something different this time and thus he imported an Indian Brazilian model. With much hype and publicity he made her an item girl but now its on audience to accept her or not. The item song is one of the most erotic songs of Bollywood.

The Trailer: Looks promising. Amitabh Bachchan, as usual is at his best. Sanjay Dutt seems to be in action avatar in the film Rana Daggubati seems promising here. If we go by the trailer the movie has things to offer. Hope it does not turn out to be like RGV’S ‘Aag’. Obviously even good actors cannot do anything to such a film!

Let’s see the position of the music album of the film ‘Department’. Will it be able to make a mark? Or will just pass by?
Dan Dan…: The song has good beats and music. It instantly transforms you into grooving mood. Nathalia Kaur is the highlight of the song. Audio is good enough to make you tap your feet but video may raise some eyebrows! Vulgar moves of Nathalia , hardly does any good to the song. Well it seems it’s the boldest video till date, in Bollywood. Overall the audio is definitely good and will stick to your tongue for long.

Tere Ishhq ... kammo: The song is full on entertaining and is shot in a marriage environment. Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt are at their best. The steps are funny as well as refreshing. It’s a sure shot dance number.

Ek Do Teen Char: This song is a bit serious compared to the first two. The song slowly picks up the pace and progressively becomes energetic. Drum beats and lyrics add more volume to the track. Enjoyable track especially the beats! Composers Dharam and Sandeep have done an amazing job.

Bad Boys: The track is plane and fails to impress. Sung by Ritu Pathak and Earl the song just manages to be an average track when compared to other songs in the album.

Thodi Si Pee Li Hai: Sanjay Dutt has given tribute to Amitabh Bachchan by dancing on his old track from Namak Halal. The song is just ok. Amitabh’s track was more entertaining inspite of being on the slower side. Sanjay Dutt’s version becomes a little noisy.

Overall the music album of ‘Department’ is just above average. Dan Dan and Kammo are worth listening. And it’s because of these two songs that the music album gets some demand.

The buzz and prospect: The future of the film at the box office looks good, as it has many punches and the shades of grey in it. It has got Bollywood's two top star-powers - legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. The item song of Nathalia already created a buzz, and will attract a certain section of audience to the theatres. The violence and gory action will certainly appeal the fans of RGV style underworld movies. The very presence of Bachchan Senior, who's going through a prolonged phase of illness since his last release, will draw huge crowd including his massive fan base. The recent resurgence of underworld activities in the city of Mumbai may also renew viewers' interest on this genre. And the film has a very little competition on the Box Office for about 2 weeks. The movie will have a sure shot good opening.

Whether ‘Department’ will be a hit or a miss, only time will tell. Looks like you'll not be disappointed if you decide to book your tickets.
