The ultimate winner from this one is Anuragh Kashyap. This movie is miles ahead of the ‘emotional attyachar’ he made us go through in ‘No Smoking’. Expecting another jaded so-called modern version of Devdas, this movie totally blows you apart and is much more than that… It certainly is not the ‘old wine in new bottle’ that I expected it to be….

The start of the movie with the opening scenes and the bold-language gives u a taste of what to expect from the film. Dev, Paro, Chanda & Chunni, the movie keeps the main characters same but that’s where the similarities ... » read more

This movie turned out to be better than I had expected. The last thing I wanted to do was to watch a movie that hammers you through Friday evening. It did not fortunately.Yes, the modern day interpretation was not a bad idea, nor was it vague. Abhay Deol has this uncanny ability to select movies that might not create a very good impression in the 'promotions' but does manage to create a level of intrigue in movie goers, which i think works to his advantage.
So, back to the movie, though it was not a complete bouncer and managed to retain most of Dev Das's character ... » read more

Dev D is certainly a story based on a very old plot. But surprisisi-
ngly it is made in such a manner that it hold you to your seat till end.The treatment what is known these days as the talk in film world is fresh and gives you some thinking material of present day situations. The music is loud and sometimes over and irritating but the director is capable of sending the correct message to the viewer throughout the film. The charecters are portrayed well and I think this movie will be like by many. » read more

    The Daring D

Sarat Babu’s ultimate tragedy has inspired a number of filmmakers to try their hands out on this epic. A number of variants (keeping the basic idea), including Prakash Mehra’s hugely successful “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar” have also been attempted in the past. Here is another modern-day take on the epic. Unfortunately this one has caused shelving of the in-making “Aur Devdas” by Sudhir Mishra…

Devender Singh Dhillon a.k.a Dev (Abhay) is a spoilt brat, whose father sends him to London for higher education. His childhood friend, daughter of his father’s ... » read more

Dev D ain’t any Devdas that we expected it to be. The director makes it very clear in the first reel of the movie which says “Loosely based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhya’s Novel Devdas”. Its certainly more than just a brilliant attempt at taking the essence of one of the most famous novels of India literary and putting into a modern age drama. The India in which Sarat Chandra wrote this novel, has changed, transformed and got a face lift both aesthetically and ethically. So what you see is grey and not black & white. Dillip Kumar and Shahrukh Khan made Devdas a brooding, ... » read more

    Movie Viewing Attyachar -

Yeah, now lets discuss this one which i sat to see last night with a lot of enthu. What a piece of job done- really !! It did take me through a period of mental, physical and EMOS_NAL attyachar true to the genuine lyrics of the popular song. Sarat Babu (Chandra Chattopadhyay) would almost arise from his grave to lament over the adaptation from his noble work called DEVDAS.
This modern Devdas is gen X and all colorful and is far from our very known regretting, crying Hero who puts himself to utter suffering on losing Paro. Paro too.. ... » read more

    WORTH THE WAIT

I watched Dev D after ages. Had missed it in the hall and had to wait for the DVD. (It is still running in some vague halls which I couldn't visit). So it was a long wait. But after watching it I felt that it was worth the wait indeed.

I thought that Anurag Kashyap did a great job of taking from the old and making it his own. A completely different treatment but surprisingly very much a part of the original storyline.

Mahi Gill was the surprise of the film. Amazing screen presence and a natural. Abhay Deol got the hopelessness, ... » read more

Watch it. The treatment is good. The music rocks. Its the beginning of great, off-beat Indian movies. If you survived Slumdog and want to see a truly deserving Indian movie then this is one to catch.

Amit's music has depth and breadth. The album is a good one to own and all songs by the second listen will become popular in your head. Am a little speculative about his next album cause I dont recall one song from Aamir (his last).

Abhay with his "Emotional Atyachar" is truly the only Deol in the family who should be acting. Kalki is not too memorable ... » read more

When i heard that Dev D got 5 stars.... i was shocked in a happy way because now i wanted to see the movie... But now that i've seen it.... OMG!! It definetly does not deserve 5 stars.... i mean hello!! THE DARK KNIGHT.... even that got 4 nd a half stars... i mean story is more or less same as Devdas, 3 hrs long!! and all those who liked the movie either relate to it or have to be as high as Abhay in the movie... But this is my point of view... But u have to agree that the movie is getting either a gr8 review or a very bad 1.... Finally i would say, if u r really ... » read more

A very good experimental movie by Anurag Kashyap. He himself purposely showed us that this film is “Emotional Atyachar” for all those people who dare to watch. Before the film starts he honestly admitted that this film is “loosely” inspired by the novel “DEVDAS”. It means he had just made it for only those who are not at all seriously watching it or for those who are not at all serious about their life. Anurag showed us that how the real Devdas are in today’s world of centuries, how they become and how their mental attitude are towards women. Ah haan, you got me right. ... » read more
