Dhobi Ghat is a tale about four different people, every single one from different walks of life, and how their lives interweave in this journey and how they manage with their desire, loneliness, fondness, amity and defeat. The entire story takes a look at four different characters in the dynamic city, Mumbai, or can be called as a video diary on the people of this busy city.
Four people from very dissimilar backgrounds, whose worlds crisscross and abscond them perpetually distorted. As they come across themselves pinched into forceful affairs, the city finds its mode into the gaps of their lives, unraveling them even as it brings them nearer. Wreckages of their experience, seen through an inexperienced video journal, black and white pictorial images and canvas, form a description of Mumbai and its citizen’s leaps mutually as they ride through ache, solitude, pasting and love.
Four different stories are amazingly told in only 95 minutes in the most sensible method. The characters are authentic and so are their stories, their emotions, their relationships, their smiles, their tears, their dreams, their wishes, their worries and their tragedies. It comes across as realistic and real as your eyes would scrutinize and observe in factual life. In fact, each of the characters is brilliantly sketched and each of them elongated or aspires for that someone special.
Kiran Rao’s direction and writing is simply extra-ordinary. Her conviction, her imagination, her way of thinking, each and every design of her characters, her scene narration, everything from bottom to top, is just top-notch and highly impressive. As a debut she has proved her talent and we definitely wishes to see her more in such interesting and meaningful cinemas.
Monica and Kirti and made their debuts very strong and commendable. Their performances in the film were outstanding and natural. Prateik was the star of the show, and his eccentric looks and charming personality adds to this performance. Aamir underplays his part superbly and compassionately allows his associate cast to be noticeable in their individual parts. By this, he is surely a superstar in his own terms.
On the whole, the film is purely watchable for its content, characters along with added young and talented performances by not only by the cast, but also by the entire crew which includes cinematography, editing, sound effects persons, and so on.
