Dritiman was born on 30th May and his original name was Sundar. It was Satyajit Ray who has named him as ‘Dhritiman’. He completed his graduation from reputed Presidency College. After that, he went to Delhi School of Economics for his masters and finished that in 1966.
Dritiman was a journalist of Tech One magazine and in this connection, he went to Satyajit Ray’ for an interview. In 1971, Satyajit Ray introduced him in his film “Protidandi”. A versatile actor that Dhritiman was but he was mainly offered character of angry young man. His performances in some parallel films were worthy of his great talent. Picnic (1972) , Jadu Bangshe, 36 Chowringee Lane, Padatik, Akaler Sandhane (1982) Ganasatru (1990),Agantuk, are some of his wonderful performances. When he was in Delhi, he formed Delhi Music and Drama society theatre group. Celluloid film society is also his brainchild. He had done many ad films in televisions and recently has worked in some Hindi movies.
