    Dia Mirza was born (on 9th Dec 1981, in Hyderabad) to Frank Handrich was a German interior designer and her mother is Deepa Mirza, a Bengali. Her parents separated when she was six years old. Her father died when she was nine and her mother remarried Ahmed Mirza whose surname she took. She grew up in Khairatabad, Hyderabad.
    Dia was also second runner up in the Miss India 2000 beauty contest and then went on to be crowned the Miss Asia Pacific.
    Dia was launched with great fanfare by Vashu Bhagnani, who signed her for three films. he debut was Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite R. Madhavan. The film was a remake of a Tamil film, Minnale and was not a box office success. The songs became a rage and Zara Zara is a chartbuster and an alltime favourite accross masses even today. Her second, Deewaanapan opposite Arjun Rampal was also a dud.
    She was to star in Om Jai Jagadish, but she had some problems with Vashu and she was replaced by Tara Sharma.

    A series of unsuccessful films followed. She has in the storm with a kiss with Emraan Hashmi in the movie Tumsa Nahin Dekha.
    After that she has appeared in bit roles in many movies and lead roles in a few, Alag being one of them.
    In 2007, she acted in Shootout at Lokhandwala and Dus Kahaniyaan.
    She will be seen in Suparn Verma's Acid Factory, due in 2009 and will be the only girl in a big male cast. She is re-inventing her look with this film.
    She is the brand ambassador for Fem Herbal Stratum
