Amina grew up in a picturesque village in Jalpaiguri where she later married Abed Ali.Abed was a farmer and Ameena’s dreams involved Abed and his farms only. As days passed by Ameena became pregnant and now her dreams also involved the baby. The day the baby came in this new world, a dispute started in Palashbari involving land owners, thus they were forced to leave their land behind and were left to search a new home for themselves in the slums of Kolkata. Abed started to clean the cars in the roadside parking area and Ameena started working as a house maid to earn their livelihood, but things changed for the once happy couple, Abed started becoming alcoholic in the company of his new friends. It started with drinking at night and later Abed got drunk even during the day. He even stopped whatever little he used to earn from his car washing and started torturing Ameena for more and more money. Things became worse and hunger forced Abed to bring people to his house where he forced his wife to sleep with them in return of few rupees. Ameena started becoming more and more helpless, at seeing her dreams being shattered each day.At this point of time to make things worse Abed and Ameena’s one and only born baby boy became extremely sick and his health started deteorating .Their neighbour then suggested that they should admit their son to the hospital where the boy would get treatment and also free food. The baby could have his share of milk and bread and Ameena could hide and take away the rest of the full meal back home, which would satisfy the hunger of the couple. The neighbour also suggested that Ameena could seduce the ward boy of the hospital Santu so that he would arrange for the hospital bed and the full diet. Santu also fel for her charms and agreed to her but wanted her every night at his room in return of his favour. Ameena’s new routine started in the hospital, she fed her baby with milk and bread and later hid the full meal back to her house where Abed had the fish meal and the left over food by Ameena. As days passed by and the hunger slowly fulfilled by the hospital diet, their marital life also improved. One day Abed started requesting Ameena that the diet was given by the hospital nurses so she should stop meeting Santu. Ameena’s eyes filled with tears and she could feel the long lost love of her husband once all over again. Next day news broke that Santu got killed in an encounter with police. At this news, Abed’s happiness new no end. However when Ameena reached the hospital ward in the evening she was a little surprised to see her baby missing from the bed. She thought that the baby must be carried to the toilet by the attendants. She sat in the chair next to the bed ,suddenly her eyes caught the sight of the diet kept on the table. The milk and bread was also kept aside. Ameena who had fed the whole diet to Abed in the afternoon also already starving. She could not resist her hunger. She took the bread in her hand, turned at the window and tried gulping the bread so that she has it unnoticed but alas what she saw outside the window was unbelievable .She saw her baby lying motionless on the floor and a white cloth covering the body. bread started feeling like poison, she felt as if she was short of breath .The whole world shattered at the very moment as she rushed to the only hope of her life, the little boy who was already dead.
