Dilip Roy is a distinguished Bengali actor.
Dilip was born on 17th December, 1939 in Chittagong (Bangladesh) whose nick name was Ranga. He passed Matriculation from Asansol ‘s Belurei High School. He was unable to continue his studies after that due to many reasons. Apart from acting, he used to work in the Communication Department of Indian Institute of Technologies.
His elder brother Poritosh Roy ,being in Production Controller, gave him enough opportunities for getting roles in movies. His brother introduced him to director Sunil Ganguly who casted him in his film “Sati Behula” in 1953. His immense potential got rewarded in his movies namely Sorry Madam (1962), Nivedita (1962), Shiuli Bari (1962), Hasuli Baker Upokotha (1962), Raajdrohi (1966), Mahabiplobi (1972), Swami Stree (1981), NeelKantha(1985). He is a versatile genius whose directorial ventures was also equally successful. He was a noteworthy stage artist and used to work in theatres in television and radio. He was also the editor of Akritodar Abhinetri Sangha.
