    Dipankar De is one of the most admired and noted actors who have made a mark in the world of Bengali Cinema.

    Dipankar De was born on 5th July, 1944 in Jamshedpur. His nickname is Tito. In 1962, he passed his Higher secondary examination from the reputed St.Xavier’s School. Later, he graduated from Presidency College in Economics and completed his Masters Degree from Jadavpur University in 1965. He used to work in different television serials. Not only that, he was an equally proficient Sitar player which was taught by Mustaq Ali Khan.

    Dipankar De had directly approached Satyajit Ray for his passion for acting. In 1971, Satyajit Ray considered him for a small role in his film “Seemaboddho”.But his first released movie where he played the lead role was “Hariye Khuji” directed by Swadesh Sarkar in 1974. But Satyajit Ray did not forget him, and he gave him a chance in his next film ‘Jan Aranya’. Later on Dipankar associated himself other Ray films too. Due to legal problems when Uttam Kumar failed to do the role offered to him in Bancharamer Bagan by Tapan Sinha, Dipankar De got his lifetime opportunity. In this movie, he played double role and got immense praise and love of the audience. He directed a telefilm named “Jyotishi”. He still works in amateur theatres and in television serials and Yatras. He has traveled abroad extensively for performing in different plays. Still now, he is working in different Bengali Movies in different shades of character. Dipankar De got the B.F.J.A award for his brilliant role in “Naukadubi”. He was awarded the prestigious National Award for the movie “Parama” directed by Aparna Sen.
