Dipti Ray was born in Kolkata in the year 1929. Her father’s name was Asit Ranjan Ray. For her family matters she could not continue her studies after passing Higher Secondary in private.
She made her debut in the film “Dabi” in 1943 directed by Dhiren Ganguly. Actress Manika Ganguly, daughter of Dhiren Ganguly was so impressed by watching her acting. She introduced her to Naresh Mitra. Then Dipti became the heroine of “Swaym Siddha” directed by Naresh Mitra which was released in the year 1947.
Till 1995 she used to act only in the Bengali Films. In 50 years spam of her film career she acted in almost 100 films. Her major film were, “Pasher Bari”, “Khoka Babur Pratyabartan”, “Mayar Sangsar”, “Chowringee”, “Kal Tumi Aleya”, “Antareen” etc. She received President Award for her performance in “Bichark” in 1959. She did not marry.
