Doghi synopsis (Story)

Debut feature by sociologist and NGO activists Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhthankar, known earlier for their short film Chakori (1992). Two sisters from a poor rural family sustain their relationship in the face of a variety of problems. Their parents (Suryakant Mandre, Uttara Baokar) are wage labourers who also attempt to till their piece of infertile land. Gauri (Renuka Daftardar), whose marriage is abandoned when the groom dies, ends up as a prostitute in order to pay for her sister Krishna's (Sonali Kulkarni) future and her family's maintenance. » Read Full Story
