“Don 2” the 2nd installment of Don is stylish and power packed action thriller. Don returns after 5 years to pull off another heist in Berlin wherein he plans to steal the currency plates from the DZB, for which he includes his foe Vardhan (Boman Irani), the computer hacker Samir Ali (Kunal Kapoor), Ayesha (Lara Dutta) & Jaffer (Nawab Shah), Roma(Priyanka Chopra) now a part of the Interpol is still behind Don.
The screenplay & story by Farhan Akhtar is full of twists at the right places and stretches across from Malaysia to Switzerland to Germany, but it could have been much crisper being a thriller it becomes a bit slow in patches. Dialogues by Farhan Akhtar are witty and have the punches. The Camera work by Jason West captures the mood of the film well and is very stylishly shot. But the real highlight of the movie is the action sequences, special mention of the Car chase between Roma & Don on the roads of Berlin, brilliantly shot. The action sequences are world class.
Music is the major let down, other than “Zara Dil Ko Tham le”, other songs are completely forgettable, Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy magic is completely missing. Vaibhavi Merchant’s choreography for “Zara Dil ko Tham Lo” is brilliant it reminds you the cabaret number of the 70’s. Special Mention of the costume designer Jaimal Odederav, the styling of each character is excellent and lifts the movie in the style quotient.
Performance wise Shahrukh does a brilliant job as Don, he is best when he plays characters with grey shades (remember Baazigar & Darr). Priyanka Chopra as Roma the Interpol officer is completely at ease, right from her walk to the way she delivers her dialogues to her action sequences everything is bang on. Boman Irani again plays Vardhan and does justice. Kunal Kapoor as Samir Khan the hacker has less screen time but creates impact in his small role. Ally Khan as Diwan the VP of DZB is good and suits the role to the T. Nawab Shah as Jaffer is fine. Lara Dutta in her special appearance as Ayesha looks sexy and completely suits the role, especially in the “Zara Tham Lo” song she has the oomph required from the song. But the real surprise is Hrithik Roshan in a special appearance, he steals the moment.
Overall “Don 2” is an impactful and stylish thriller which could have been better, it lacks completely in emotional quotient but worth a watch. 3 stars from me.
