With remakes comes huge responsibility. Same is for the music, when you know the music of the original is still fresh in the minds. So lets look in here if this remake actually impresses.
Main Hoon Don has a haunting tune to begin with and keeps it on throughout the song. Sung by Shaan, this song is exactly the way one would have it to describe DON in his own words. Javed Akhtar does well with his pen and so does Shaan behind the mic.
It later appears in an Fncinternational mix, which is passable. Nothing great in that sense.
Rememeber the famous Helen track, Yeh Mera Dil from the old?? Yes you have it back here, but this time with some more beats, more spunk, and more pace. It wont be wrong to say that this actually a remix of the older version, re sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. Nonetheless, the song impresses and is a chartbuster for sure!
Morya Re is next which is the introductory song for Vijay. Based on the Visarjan of Ganpati bappa, Shankar Mahadevan croons the song with the required amount of religious feel without missing on the spark of the song. The song turns out to be quite catchy, especially the linees 'Morya Morya Morya Re..' Another impressive one from the trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
Its not just Yeh mera dil which has been reinovated in the movie. You have another classic, this time Khaike Paan Banaraswaala, which again is a remixed version of the old sung by Udit Narayan. Udit Narayan appears as a straightaway right choice for the song and he does full justice to this lengendary Kishore Kumar track.
Haunting club song is in the offering with Aaj ki Raat. Sung by Mahalaxmi Iyer, this track is a surprise package. From vocals to composition to lyrics, the song boasts of top notch class in each department. While the time it ends, this one is up for repeated hearings.
Don Revisited is a quite lavish theme song featuring some of the classic and impressive dialogues from Shahrukh himself. The background tune and the remix portion is quite well done together here, and turns out to be a good theme music song to end the album.
On the whole, DON is a new generation album and will definitely not be liked by those who are still in love with the old version songs. However, the songs do impress without leaving any bad mark, whatsoever.
