  • Double to nahin, par Dhamaal to hai….

Double Dhamaal rating: 4 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 24 Jun 2011)

Four years back Director Inder Kumar surprised us with his goofy film “Dhamaal” which was an instant hit. The director found his lost touch with that film and again after a huge gap comes back with a sequel to the hilarious hit. The first part was written and screen played by Paritossh Painter, and at the time of its release many credited this writer for the success of the film. But after “Dhamaal” both Inder Kumar and Paritossh could not get things right as they gave us craps like Daddy Cool and Paying Guest. Let’s find out how Inder Kumar fares in his latest flick with the different team of writers.

“Double Dhamaal” starts with sulking of Four Idiots Roy {Riteish Deshmukh}, Adi {Arshad Warsi}, Boman {Ashish Choudhary} & Manav {Javed Jaffrey}. It’s been years and they don’t have single penny with them and still dream of the lost money. One day they come to know of Kabir {Sanjay Dutt} who owns a big company and is stinking rich. Roy/Adi/Boman and Manav try to blackmail Kabir and become partners in his company. In order to get more partnership they arrange finance from a local Don Bata Bhai {Satish Kaushik}. But Kabir cons them and fly away with the money leaving all four in trouble time. What happens next is the entire film about.

Story is very simple and has nothing new to offer. It’s just a one liner plot where one group trying to con another and vice versa. But it’s the screenplay and the situations which hold you in this film. There are some hilarious moments like the Devil Bar scene, Emotional Attyachar over Sanjay, Kaun Banega Crorepati funda, Arabpati Dreams, Manav’s Hug, Swami Batanand Speech, Satish Chasing all four, Ritesh Gorilla Scene followed by Aashish Lips, Ritesh Kangana track, Aashish take on Taare Zameen Par, Ritesh as Gujju Bhai and family, Golf Game, Ritesh and Brothers at Sanjay’s home, The “HUM” scene and the anti climax. Also the imitating of Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Aamir Khan, Shatrughan Sinha, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan and many more by all four were superb. On the flip side the first half was bit low on humor content, Kangana-Mallika overacting, few unnecessary double meaning scenes, Gorilla jokes and plenty of illogical moments. But thanks to the dialog writers and some superb punches like Gun-De, Yeh muaah kahin aur bhi muaah mar raha hai, MMS-Meri maro saalo, Teri behen ka naam area hai kya, Bulland mein se bu, Meri bhai ki Nas-Band I ho gayi, Hulia, gujju and Sardar Jokes, etc makes you keep laughing throughout the film. Camera work is strictly average. Editing is highly required as the movie turns out to be more than 2.5 hrs. A little tight and crispy version would work in favor of the film.

Music is fine with all time pass numbers like Chill Maro, Double Dhamaal and Oye Oye. Jalebibai item number is good.
Inder Kumar with a new team of writers ends the allegation of Dhamaal being out and out writer’s film. Out here he tries to keep the same fire alive and succeeds too. But the film does not go above the enjoyable moments of the first part. Also at time one does miss the other extra characters from the first part.

Sanjay Dutt is fine, but not the best as he is in such films. At times he was total stiff and missed the moments, loved his final dialog. Arshad Warsi and Ritesh Deshmukh rocked throughout the film. Both in their various getups were hilarious and amazing when it came to mimic. Javed Jaffery was good and enjoyable, but the role was not as good as in first part. Aashish did some good job, especially as the weird kid. His female act was vulgar. Satish Kaushik was superb and enjoyable. Mallika and Kangana were wasted.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Dum hai accha khaasa time pass fun hai. If you can digest some goofy stuff, bit of double meaning dialogs and some silly antics then you will enjoy this film. The performances by Ritesh, Arshad, Aashish, Javed and Satish are enjoyable, followed by some good one liner and funny moments. The length might be bit worrying for you, but keep the brains at home and enjoy this film with tub of popcorn. Don’t expect the double entertainment in comparison with the first part, double to nahin hai…but dhamaal to hai.
