Edge Of Darkness rating: 3 out of 10(Aakash Barvalia wrote on 29 Jun 2010)

Martin Campbell who has directed good films and not so good films, but still very popular, such as, Golden Eye, Vertical Limit, The Legend of Zorro, Casino Royale and etc. in his entire career he was won 3 awards and was nominated for one time. Being so popular and got chance to work with better cast and crew, but still failed many a times to give atleast one good decent film to watch. This film is another good example of it. Though his direction was a bit good but I am totally upset with the good writers, William Monahan, who has written films like Departed and Body of Lies, and has written a trash like this.

Thomas Craven is a detective agent, as a CIA, and working for the USA government for many years. His one and only one beloved 24yr old daughter was being shot to dead in front of him at the door steps of his house. He was completely in a shock and initially he was thinking that the main target was himself, as because of his job and duty. But later on when he started to investigate he found out that it was her daughter only, who was being targeted and was planned to kill. To know the reason behind this, he further got to know the naked truth behind all this, the whole scam and the scandals of the corruption and the conspiracy inside the system.

Now how Thomas discovers this and how he fights against his own system between his own people, is all about this film.

    My comment:
It’s an old clichéd story just tried to present in some different manner. The writer and the director played the emotions part in this film to act something different. But they failed in that because the audiences are as good and as smart. The movie is so slow that one can be easily get bored after every 10mins of interval. I was just very eagerly waiting for the main interval to come; ending was very far, to even think of it. The only think which thrilled me was the gun shots. Presented very originally and also somewhat terrifying. Also the makeup done was effectively good.

All the technical things were as good as one Hollywood movie has to be. Performance by Thomas was indeed very good; actually no doubt in it as he is already a very good veteran actor. Rest all were typecast.

It’s very sad to know that the very good writers, directors and also the actors are signing this film and making this kind of boredom. Though the subject was nice, but it was written and presented in a very bad way.

Overall the entire movie was very slow; hardly any action or thrilling scenes were there, the script was very badly written, and the director has presented in a very Ok-Ok manner.

    Final verdict:
Just wasn’t expecting this from the experts.

    1.5 / 5
