Kedarnath Mukherjee brings up his granddaughter Dola very well. He appoints a music teacher, a sanskrit teacher, a western dance teacher, a swimming trainer, an Indian dance teacher, an exercise trainer, and an english teacher so that Dola is trained in everything needed to make her an accomplished modern girl. Kedarnath loves to write poems and recites it to the family members. But his family members, including his wife, doesnt like his poems. Basanta enters the household as Somnath to listen to and write Kedarnaths poems. Dola falls in love with him and realises that he has to impress her grandparents for them to get married. But Dola's grandmother is not fond of Basanta (as she isnt fond of her husbands poems) and she repeatedly insuslts Basanta, who finally leaves the house. One day a bussinessman Loharam Chakraborty gives a proposal of marriage with Dola to Kedarnath. He readily rejects it, but his wife accepts it. On the other side all the private tutors of Dola try to impress her. But as Dola loves Basanta, she rejects Loharam and all her tutors. She leaves her house and goes to her friend Nanda's house to meet her brother, Somnath. She tells Nanda everything and Nanda in turn tells Kedarnath everything. Kedarnath agrees to the match and Dola and Somnath are married.
