The story goes back to a village Narendrapur where a greedy zamindar Rudranarayan existed who made life hell for his subjects and had no mercy for them even when the harvesting season was bad one year and the people had to go literally without a meal. The zamindar was adamant in realizing his dues.Bhola (he was a subject’s nephew) and Kanai had run away one day after hitting the zamindar’s men and fled to another village. They came across a friendly child ghost-Bhuter Chana who heard their tale of woes and gave them special powers so that they could wish whatever they wanted and it would happen.
Bhola and Kanai reached Rupnarayanpur where the zamindar Chandrasekhar who was just opposite of Rudranarayan was willing to give his hand in marriage to anyone who could find his daughter who was untraceable.
Bhola and Kanai do manage to bring the zamindar’s daughter Chandralekha back. They even go to Rudranarayan ‘s house and teach him and the ‘nayeb’ a lesson.Rudranarayan later changes himself and adopts Bhola and Kanai as his sons.Bhola gets married to Chandralekha.
