    “Ek Film Seedhi Saadhi Si”

In 70’s- 80’s there were Social-Family oriented films which use to tell us story of Family love, Sacrifice, Simple Living, etc. Slowly slowly such movies started vanishing from our film industry except from Rajshri films that made a film “Vivaah” on such theme and was a big hit. Now the makers give us another film on same lines but with total different subject. No big stars, Low Movie and Music Promotion, Simple theme and less release all these are opposite of what movies are made today. Let’s see if it’s for good or bad.

“Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi” is story of Chandni [Ishaa Koppikar],who lives in a small town of India with her father [Alok Nath] and her younger brother and Sister. She is a folk singer and in a state level musical competition gets paired with another talented Singer Prem [Sonu Sood]. Together they form a great pair and win award on national level. This association also leads them more close to each others heart and thus decides to tie a knot. But things do not work out as planed for them. On the day of ceremony Chandni loses her father and has to take care of her siblings. All her close family members show their true colors, thus she decides to take care of her siblings alone without even help from Prem and cancels her marriage plans. Prem supports her unconditionally and thus start the saga of Chandni and Prems Love story. How do they cope with all this problem is what the entire movie about.

Story is simple and has loads of shades from Hindi films like Tapasya and Jeevan Dhaara. But thanks to rajshri type of treatment it does not become melodramatic or over tragic. Screenplay to matches with the film. Though the treatment of this film is also like films made in earlier era which works in favor of the movie but might not work with the younger audience of today. Editing could have been better at places. Sets remind you strongly of Rajshris last venture “Vivaah” .

Music by Ravindra Jain is simple and melodious. Few songs are very nice but might not appeal with todays fast pace songs listeners. Also one does compare them to Vivaah and on that basis the soundtrack of this film is bit low then the earlier one. But do watch out for Competition song{Jhirmir Jhirmir Megha Barse}, Train song [Neend mein hain-Superb] and Sonu Soods musical career song [Mujme Zinda hain who].

Kaushik Ghatak has made this film with bit hang over of Vivaah, but also has treated in its own way. By making such films he has shown that films with simplicity can also me made with keeping in mind the entertainment value. His way of story telling does not let you down .

Sonu Sood looked smart and has done his job with ease. He has delivered a good performance of a supporting lover. Isha Koppikar has given her careers best performance. She looked stunning in plenty of scenes [in Traditional avatar]. She does not cry or portrays heavy melodrama still people might connect to her with her expressions. Alok Nath, Smita Jaykar, Jaya, Vishal, Vallabh etc are good but in small role.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hain kaafi emotional aur simple film hain. People who love such type of films will love this movie too. But big cities, younger generation might not connect to this film and if you have not liked the earlier work of Rajshri[Vivaah] then this is not a film for you. Lack of star value, less promotion of film and song might not work in favor of the film. Still if you want to see seedhi saadhi film with good music and good performance by lead actors go for it.
