Emraan Hashmi was born on 24 March 1979 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His original name is Emran Anwar Hashmi. He was born to a Muslim father and Catholic mother. His father is employed in Air India and his mother works in a multinational company. He changed his name to Farhaan Hashmi but recently reverted to his original name, with an extra "a" as per numerology beliefs. His nickname is Emmi. He is a graduate from Sydenham college in Mumbai where he pursued graphics and animations course. He was a child model at the age of five years and did many commercials like -'Rasna' and 'Goodnight'.
Hashmi made his debut in 2003 with the film Footpath where he played the role of a hooligan. However, it did not do well at the box office. He shot to fame with Murder (2004) which was his first hit.
He is the guy famous not for his acting skills but for his hot videos. Emran became famous after his sensational masala videos of Murder with Malika Sherawat. He has no six pack abs but still he is considered quite hot among bollywood movie makers and the audience. He again hit the charts when he did the video for Aashiq Banaya Aap Ne (2005). Emraan is also famous for his kissing scenes in most of his movies. He has been nicknamed the 'serial kisser'. The actor has always been king of controversies because of the kissing scenes in all of his movies.
His next few films such as Zeher (2005), Kalyug (2005) and Gangster (2006) have done well at the box office and the soundtracks in these respective films have helped create a large fan base. Amusingly, all the songs from his movies have become instant hits.Emran Hashmi made another video Jhalak Dikhlaja for the album Aksar. It was a typical bollywood masala dance number. In Tumsa Nahi Dekha (2004) of Anurag Basu, the team was nearly the same. In this movie he played Daksh, a rich guy who finds himself alone in life. Though this films didn’t work at the box-office, he was appreciated for the character that he portrayed. His 2007 releases Good Boy Bad Boy as well as The Train went unnoticed completely. His last release Awarapan (2007) has got him a lot of recognition and rave reviews from the audiences as well as the critics. He has received a lot of award nominations for the said role.
His next film Jannat directed by debutant Kunal Deshmukh is ready for release in 2008.
He has won the Stardust award for Best new menace for his film Murder (2004) He has won the Stardust Best newcomer award for his debut film Footpaath (2003)
He is the nephew of Mahesh Bhatt and is a cousin of actress and director Pooja Bhatt. He married Parveen Shahani at an elaborate ceremony on Thursday, December 14th, 2006. His favorite film is The Last Sumurai and his favorite actor who influenced him is Michael J. Fox. He plans to buy one of the fastest cars, Ferari. In life he always wished to be a pilot. He has worked as an assistant director to Vikram Bhatt for the films Raaz and Kasoor.
