In the movie, Sridevi plays the role of a middle-class Indian housewife who is not well versed in English. She is supposed to visit America and secretly starts learning the language. In the end Sridevi surprises all with her English fluency and how she succeeds in doing so forms the crux of the story.
'English Vinglish' also throws light on some dysfunctional characters who takes up the 'Learn English in 2 weeks' course along with Sridevi. The movie is laced with fun and hilarious situation, topped with Sridevi's comic timing dialogues.
There is a scene where an American Consulate guy asks the actress 'You don't know English, how will you manage in our country?'. For that she replies, 'You don't know Hindi, but seem to be managing just fine in ours'!
