It’s been a long time we have seen a decent college based film. There were times when the movies were made where it would start with fresher’s meeting in college, one rich another poor, first fight between them later love and finally the family drama. Then there were films like Goonj, Holi, etc which dealt with some social issues or education problems related to the youth but in the serious manner. In between there were some time pass college entertainers like Style and others. But the last big film we witnessed changed the whole scenario towards these types of films. That film was Aamir Khan starer 3 idiots. It had romance, serious topic and entertaining moments all bended in it. But the major problem in most of these films is the actors are either new comers or establish actors. Yes there are some wannabe's type films too. But today we talk of “F.A.L.T.U” which had young actors along with some known faces talking about educations system but in different style. How different, well let’s find out?

“F.A.L.T.U” is story of four friends Ritesh {Jackky Bhagnani}, Pooja {Pooja Gupta}, Nanj {Angad Bedi} and Vishnu {Chandan Roy Sanyal}. Barring Vishnu all others take their studies very lightly and thus pass out with very low grades. Vishnu belonging to a rich guy Vardhan {Akbar Khan} who wants his son to live life in his way, whereas Vishnu has his own dreams. Ritesh, Pooja and Nanji fails to get admission in any college, leading to an outrage by their parents. In order to avoid that they decide to make a fake college with help of Google {Arshad Warsi} and Baaji Rao {Ritesh Deshmukh}. What happens next is all the film about.

Story is different but has some inspirations from American Pie series at some point. But the overall concept and motive is good and different. Screenplay is interestingly filled with some good moments in it like Jackky and his father’s scenes, All Parents at Akbar Khan’s party, Ritesh Boman’s tiff over Munni song, Students making their own college, Students getting punished by Ritesh and Arshad, Students pursuing their hobbies as career and the climax scenes. The movie deals with serious topics but is presented in light and entertaining manner. The film needed some good editing in first half and even in middle part of second half where it becomes bit repetitive. Camera work is good and the whole youth feel is captured in the film.

Music by Sachin Jigar is killer. Almost all the songs are highly popular especially among the youth audience. Chaar Baj Gaye is the most entertaining and enjoyable song from the whole album. Booth aaya, Fully Faltu and Le Ja Mujhe are enjoyable. The best song in terms of choreography is Aawaz. Simple outstanding. Overall the music is one of the biggest positive point for the film.

Remo D'Souza is a good choreographer and out here he wears the directors cap. He has handled the subject very well and has done justice to it. He succeeds in giving it the youth feel and the all the topics are well explained, He also succeeds in giving the chart buster songs. But his best work is in Awaaz Song where he explains everything by dance and choreography. On the flip side everything goes very easy in the film. The whole idea and concept of students college is different and likable but on other side raises many questions which are not explained at all.

Jackky’s last film was a disaster, but out here he has restrained himself and has done a decent job. He still reminds me of duplicate Uday Chopra. If someone else would had been there in his part the film would had increased in its quality basis. Pooja is simple and cute, but nothing much to do as the romance is not all shown in this film. Agad Bedi and Chandan does their part well, but not the best. Arshad and Ritesh lifts above the level of the film. Akbar Khan looks dashing in is Re-Introducing avatar, but tries hard to imitate Feroz Khan and fails. Mithun in a cameo is likable. Rameshwari, Darshan Jhariwala, and others are good.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai dum?

Dum hai, mazedaar hai aur time pass entertainer hai. Thanks to the theme, chart buster songs and some good choreography the film manages to keep you sit in your chair in the cinema hall. The lack of big names and even talented names will be biggest negative points for the film. Also the easy going life raises questions in the film which are unanswered. But the film which is youth centric will appeal to them and will work for its targeted audience. As for others too it is not a bad watch and is worth taking a shot to watch it, especially for the “Chaar Baj Gaye” and “Aawaaz” song.
