Farah Naaz or Farah was born on 9 December 1968 in Hyderabad, India. She was one of the popular Bollywood actresses in the 1980s & early 90s. She is the niece of talented actress Shabana Azmi and elder sister of Tabu.
Farah made her debut with Yash Chopra's Faasle (1985) opposite Mahendra Kapoor's son Rohan Kapoor. Although Faasle failed at the box office, she got many big offers like Shakti Samanta's Paley Khan (1986), K.C Bokadia's Naseeb Apna Apna (1986) & Pran Lal Mehta's Love 86 (1986).
She gave more hits like Marte Dam Tak (1987), Imaandaar (1987), Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani (1988), Diljala (1987), Rakhwala (1989), Baap Ek Numbari Beta Dus Numbari (1990), etc. J.P Dutta's Yateem (1989) got her critical acclaim. It was one of her best performance oriented roles along with films like Hamara Khandaan (1989), Naqaab (1989), Khatarnaak (1990), Pati Patni aur Tawaif (1990), etc. But most of the other films failed at the Box office. In the 90s, she got to work with Aamir Khan in two films Jawani Jindabad (1990) & Isi Ka Naam Zindagi (1992), but both flopped at box office.
She was known for her bindaas and outspoken behavior and often called Fiery Farah. Around this time, she got married to Dara Singh's son Vindu Dara Singh, who was recently in the news for winning a popular reality show Bigg Boss on Television. She retired for a while from films at the peak of her career in 1990, when she was only 22 years old.
She later did some TV serials like Amar Prem, Andaz, Ahaa, Vailayiti Babu, Papa etc. After a gap, she returned to films with Hulchul (2004).
In her career, she has worked with almost all the top actors of her time including Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Mithun and Aamir Khan. Farah subsequently divorced Vindu Dara Singh and lives an independent life with her only son. Vindu has remarried.
