Madhur Ka Hain Yeh Jalwa….
There are few Directors who love to be typecast in what they have done in past, then there are those who try to do everything except making a good film. But there are also makers like Madhur Bhandarkar, who not only makes a good and different film but also makes movies on such subject which are totally new and not explored before. It needs guts to attempt such different type of subjects and presenting them with total simplicity and conviction. After venturing on unknown subjects like Dance bar, Social parties, Corporate World, Beggars and Urchin stories, etc Madhur Bhandarkar takes us trough the Journey in the world of Fashion Industry.
“Fashion” is story of Meghna [Priyanka Chopra],a small town girl who comes to Mumbai with hopes of getting successful in the world of Fashion. Little did she know that the path which she had chosen is not as simple as it sounds. After a slow career start and with help of few friends [Arjan bajwa, Mughda Godse, Ashwin Mushran etc], she manages to be in few top shows, but the shows are overshadowed by the show stopper super model Shonali [Kangana Ranaut]. Shonali on the other side is full of attitude, over confidence, unprofessionalism and a drug addict. People are slowly getting tired of her this behavior which works out in favor of Meghna as she meets the big giant of Fashion industry Mr.Sarin [Arbaaz Khan], who is totally impressed by Meghnas charms. He replaces Shonali with Meghna as the brand image of his product and thus meghna becomes a super model. But less she knew that on the road to this success she has more to loose than gain. How does Meghna survive through the journey and success of a Super model is what “Fashion” all about.
Story is simple yet new depending upon the audience I.Q. people who know the industry will find it as a daily happening but for others it works out to be an interesting feature. Screenplay is good and especially in second half becomes taut and total gripping. The movie start s on a bit slow pace as to establish the characters and also to makes us understand the Fashion Industry, but once its done it moves on a super pace and leaves less time for you to think or find any loopholes. Though at times this goes bit faster leaving the audience to wonder how it happened. But those are few minor loopholes in this unusual movie. Cinematography is of top notch and one does get the feeling of being in the world of Fashion. Full marks to the Camera man for creating such impact.
Music is good, it lifts the mood of the film to a higher level. Though the songs are uses in background or Fashion shows, but gets fantastically with the film.
Madhur Bhandarkar has been growing more and more with his every new film. Whenever he announces a subject the curiosity starts and the expectation level rises very high. Though his major movies have a sad or depressing ending matching with the reality, for a change this one ends with a positive note which again is something different to watch from this ace maker. His was of story telling is remarkable, in second half instead of playing with more events he has played with human tale. Last year we had Films like Taare Zameen Par which portrayed the human spirit, this year fashion does that but with its own touch. One thing you can be sure of watching a Madhur Bhandarkar film is he touches the subject so differently that you feel the reality in it and thus despite the box office fate one does get total satisfaction of exploring the new world of a different industry. Fashion might not be his best work but certainly comes in his one of the best works.
