It's Fashion week, this Diwali!
You have seen FTV (Fashion TV) - the Channel, and Fashion on news and all over television...now, Madhur brings Fasion to screens near you. Ajay Monga creates a good story for Priyanka Chopra to restore her falling career graph. And boy, she proves herself many times over. The beauty of a good film is...when you find it tough to decide, which of the actors portrayed the roles given in best possible manner. And in acting department, all the three leading women do exceedingly well to keep you engrossed in the proceedings for the length of the movie.
You can't fault Priyanka's potrayal as Meghna Mathur, the small town girl with a big city ambition to break into the world of fashion and the politics, frustrations and the dirty side behind the gloss of glamour and beauty. Shonali Gujral (Kangana Ranaut)'s reign as the existing ramp queen and glamour doll comes crashing, due to her wayward ways. In no time, Meghna grabs the plum endorsement for fictitious Panache group along with Sunsilk brand endorsement integration. Kangana is excellent and gets into the skin of her character with great elan and her performance will be remembered for long. However, in the complex world of "Fashion" meet "Corporate", people are just pawns in hands of the powerful few, where they get shuffled or shifted at the whims of people who have the money and control.
Madhur may be pardoned for not including any other brand in his world of Fashion, giving Abhijit Sarin (Arbaaz Khan) absolute control on the proceedings. The film also showcases the fashion designers as bunch of gay people, where the only people they are interested in...are the male models, leaving the women in the hands of people like Sarin. So, either ways...you will have to hit the couch before you hit pay dirt. Kitu Gidwani as Anisha Roy, the lady at helm of leading modeling agency does a great role, too supported by Samir Soni, Harsh Chhaya and Arjan Bajwa who play their roles. The movie has some emotional scenes, where the audience will connect to the emotions of the people behind the scenes and feel for the characters. After all, our heart goes out to the losers and everyone loves an underdog and fairytale comeback. Fashion also holds out some promise for newcomers in terms of bonds of support and friendship in the industry, where good intentions triumphs over evil manipulations. Some well known incidents related to the fashion industry have been woven into the story and characters' lives. With Meghna's story, audience will have an access to the backstage of fashion industry and peep into the lives of those beautiful people. Welcome to reality cinema, from the master of the genre. With Fashion weeks coming to an end in the metros, get ready for a longer and a version more accessible to the public in the theaters, this Diwali.
