When the promos of any film start airing on TV the first thing we look for is “Songs”… well, but in the case of Filmistaan the promoters are trying to create a buzz by dialogues and scenes of the movie… In such story oriented films, sometimes, songs may get proved as hurdles… Songs may go against the feel of the movie… Is it a same case with Filmistaan music… We will come to know about it once the movie gets released… Right now, let’s evaluate the album….

Filmistaan, as an album, consists of 5 tracks. All songs are composed by Arijit Datta & penned by Ravinder Randhawa… Not much familiar names in the industry… but does name matters to create good music??? Let us see and review all the songs one by one…

      1. Bebaq – Sung by Nikhil D’Souza… a fresh composition… song is soothing and feels good to ears… music is good… the work of guitar is good in the song… starts with slow notes and goes to high beats by antra of the song… We have already heard Nikhil in Crook and Jannat 2… here, the magic of his voice works again… but the best part of the song is its lyrics… it touches the heart…

      2. Bhugol – a song performed by Legendary Shafaqat Amanat Ali Khan along with the chorus… the impact of the music is in the Aalaap of Shafaqat… chorus also supports him pretty well… Song has a spiritual touch and Shafaqat’s voice takes you to another world… you can just feel it within you… what else can I say…. The song speaks a lot about its quality and level…

      3. Bol – A song beyond borders – A sufiyana jugalbandi of Shafaqat Amant Ali Khan & Arijit Datta… A song belongs to the genre of sufi soft rock… As I already mentioned it as a song beyond borders, the combination of Shafaqat & Arijit also makes us feel that there are the things in the world which don’t understand borders like air, rain, sunlight, birds and rivers… music and movies also belong to the same category…

      4. Udaari – Performed by Swaroop Khan (Indian Idol 5 fame) and Ishq Bector… this song is a combination of Bollywood Rap and Rajasthani Folk… A fun song to listen… music is also good and foot tapping… the song suits to the character of the lead actor ‘Sharib Hashmi’… In simple words, Udaari is a fun fledged song for everyone…

      5. Uljhi Ulji – A short and sweet song performed on simple guitar notes by Arijit Datta… the song is all about embracing the life as it has already spread the hands for you…

This album provides you different varieties, soft rock, spiritual alaap, sufi rock, BollyRap, Rajasthani folk etc… The music itself shows the efforts taken by Arijit Datta and team and will definitely be appreciated… Though it is a nice and different attempt but it may not be able to impress everyone. But i am sure that it will definitely go hand in hand with the story and will support it to go smoothly....

I would surely like to recommend it for those who like such different variety of music rather than Bollywood romantic or dance numbers… The music by Arijit Datta is fresh, soothing, and at some places intoxicating as well… Ravinder Randhwa also did the decent job with pen and impressed a lot by the words…

My pick from the album: though all songs are good, but I like Bhugol & Bol personally… but Bebaaq will surely be a pick for so many youth… udaari and uljhi uljhi are also good…

My Music Ratings: ***1/2 (3.5 stars)
