Description: The first issue of "Stardust" appeared in October 1971,. A statement of intent was given underlining the magazine's purpose in its "Snippets" column :-
Very few magazines and gossip columns are either readable or reliable and hardly any are both. Most of them are inadequately researched and are the result of second and third hand reporting. One theory put forward has it that what often passes for news and fact is really much hearsay and gossip. Another claims that the people in the movie trade who are in a position to know are too busy to write or find it impolite to write down what they know. So, this column--largely as its reason for being --will be a reporter's column and not a mouthpiece of publicists and ballyhoos of the film trade.
The magazine's manifesto is discussed throughout the whole issue. The production features were much less glossy than they are today. Colour was used only for the cover that displayed Rajesh Khanna and series of pictures of Sharmila T
