The first memory which i have about this director is from the movie "Naya Daur".

As kids we use to love watching this film on Doordarshan. At that age the concept of Man Vs Machine had made a great impact on my mind and soul. Though it was the Climax Horse Cart and Car race scene which we use to wait to watch.

When the movie was Re released [In colour], I went to see it on Big screen just to see that the same impact is there after so many years and yes it was there. Despite super hit songs etc, when the climax scene came the same goosebumps were felt which i use to feel as kid.

This was the beauty and far sighting of B.R.Chopra.

    Speaking about his other movies...

He has showed the spark in his first film "Afsana" [1951-Ashok Kumar/Veena]. he had made this film based on Extra marital affair in those taboo days.

Not seen his next two works Shole[1953], Chandni chowk [1954].But loved his Ek Hi Raasta [1956-Ashok Kumar/Meena Kumari/Sunil dutt], a film based on Widow Re-Marriage.

Then Came The classic Naya Daur [1957-Dilip Kumar/Vyjayanthimala], a film much ahead of its times based. Sadhna [1958-Sunil Dutt/Vyjayanthimala] followed on with taking B.R.Chopras career to new peak.

Then came Kanoon[1960-Ashok Kumar/Rajendra Kumar], a songless Thriller film in the golden time of Music era. This movie too reflects the advance direction sense of the legendary film maker.

He touched the topic of lost love in Gumrah[1963-Ashok Kumar/Sunil Dutt]whose songs and performaced were of top notch. which was followed by another Love/Thriller Humraaz[1967-Raaj Kumar/Sunil dutt], a film with brilliant direction and great music.

Daastan[1972-Dilip Kumar],a grand film but dint work at box office showed the different side of Dilip Kumar.

Then came Dhund[1973-Danny/Zeenat Aman], a murder Mystery with slick direction. Karm [1977-Rajesh Khanna] too dint work as per expectations but one does remember the great location's used in this film.

It was time to change, it was time to expriment and it was time when B.R.Chopra gave Insaf Ka Tarazu[1980-Raj babber / Zeenat], a very bold film based on Taboo subject like Rape. This movie showed the brilliance of the Director which showed that such subject if explored on the fine lines turns out to be classic.

Then he captured the lost subject of Muslim Socials films with Nikaah[1982-Raj babber / Salma Agha], which was musically brilliant and Tawaif [1985-Rishi Kapoor], based on the life of a Notch Dancers.

Again when it was the time to change he changed and moved to Television and gave India one if its loved and best work "Mahabharat".

"Mahabharat went on to make many history, sadly it also showed the spark of great dirctor missing in his later films like Awam [1987-Rajesh Khanna] and Kal Ki Aawaz [1992-Dharmendra]. both the subject were based on politics but sadly it dint have the same spark which was there earlier in B.R.Chopra the directors Films.

Despite few low phased films the Great director has inspired so many upcoming and also established film makers.

He under the banner of B.R. Films produced several great films [to be cont..]

A true "Master of the Game";infinite versatility. Take any genere and you will find BR Chopra pioneering it in Bollywood. Best social dramas (Naya Daur, Sadhna, Waqt, Gumrah, Ek Hi Rasta, Tawaif, Nikaah, Dhool Ka Phool, Dharmputra, Mazdoor, Baghban and Baabul), Comedies (Pati Patni Aur Woh, Chhoti Si Baat, Kirayadar), thrillers (Kanoon, Afsana, Hamraaz, Dastaan, Dhund, Aaj Ki Awaaz, Insaf Ka Tarazu, Ittefaq, Agni Pareeksha) and action flicks (Aadmi Aur Insaan, Zameer, The Burning Train) - he did it all. High-voltage court room scenes were best shot under his banner. He groomed Yash Chopra and Ravi Chopra, both are now masters of their own. He utilised music directors like Ravi and N Dutta to the best of their abilities and gave us timeless gems.

May his soul rest in peace.

B.R.Chopra produced some great films with Directors like Yash Chopra, Basu Chatterjee, Kamal Majumdaar and Ravi Chopra.

Yash Chopra- His younger brother and together they gave many different shades of cinema.

They started their association with Dhool Ka Phool [1959-Rajendra Kumar], based on Abandon love child. This was Followed by Dharamputra [1961-Sashi Kapoor], a hard hitting film based on Communal shades.

In 1965 they gave as said by Atanu the grand dad of all lost and found...also the first Mega Star film of Indian Cinema "Waqt"[1964-Raj Kumar, Balraj Sahani, Sunil Dutt and Sashi Kapoor]. Great music, good direction and gala of actors still makes this film a classic.

In 1969 yash Chopra decide to follow the brothers foot step by making another song less thriller "Itefaq"[Rajesh Khanna-Nanda], again a film ahead of its times potraying the finness of the lead actors.
This was follwed by Aadmi aur Insaan [Dharmendra/Feroz Khan], their last venture together. after this Yash Chopra moved to another banners and later started his own which till date is one of Indias Top banner.

Basu Chatterjee / Kamal Majumdar: Basu Chatterjee is a director who is known for his middle of the road cinema and in association with B.R.Chopra they gave one of best Middle Class love story in the year 1975-"Choti Si Baat"[Amol Palekar / Vidya Sinha]. One of finest feel good film ever made.

They later also made Kirayadar [1986-Raj babber/Padmini] based on Land lord and their tenents problem. The movie met average response but years later inspired director Priyadarshan to make "Yeh tera Ghar yeh mera ghar". Just the way Hrishikesh Mukherjee made "Rang Birangi" Inspired by B.R.Chopras only take on Comedy "Pati Patni aur Woh"[Sanjeev/Vidya].

Kamal Majumdar- with him B.R.Chopra made Agni Pareeksha a low budget triange starring Amol Palekar & Parikshit Sahani.

B.R.Chopra has announced and also partially

Ravi Chopra: Son of B.R.Chopra who debuted with Zameer [1975-Amitabh Bachchan] loosly inspired by Dev Anand starrer "Bambai ka babu". The movie met lukewarm response but the director hit back everyone with a far superior product "The Burnin Train"[1980-Dharmendra,Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, etc] a mega star disaster film. This film still is watched with the same passion as watched at its release time.

In 1983 they made Mazdoor with Dilip Kumar and Raj Babber. based on Mill workers life. which was followed by another great action film "Aaj Ki Aawaz" [1984-Raj Babber], a crime thriller again ahead of its times.

After this came films like Dahleez and Pratigyabandh which sadly dint match the ealrier work by father and son.

He jointly co directed with his father for the Mega Television show "Mahabharat".

Later he made films like Baagbaan,Baabul, etc which again got the director in lime light.
