If you have seen “Koi…Mil Gaya” by Rakesh Roshan, then think it in poor bong style – the result is “Friend” by Satabdi Roy.
This is Satabdi Roy’s third film and this actress turned director has acted in all her three films. The reason is – date problems of actresses like Rachana Banerjee.
If you haven’t seen “Koi…Mil Gaya”, then the storyline of Satabdi Roy’s film is as follows.
Abhirup Mukherjee (Tapas Pal) and Rajat (Rajatava Dutta) both work in a science forum under the guidance of their sir, Soumitra Chatterjee. Both Abhirup and Rajat are scientist, though what they are researching on nobody knows. One of the is good and the other is bad. Obviously you are quite intelligent enough to understand who is good and who is bad.
Tapas is married and they have a son Rishab. Rajatava is also married and he is a father of a son. Both the sons study in the same school. Tapas’s son is very poor in study and in sports whereas Rajatava’s son is good in both sports and studies.
By simply pressing the buttons of a keyboard of a PC, Tapas Pal’s computer screen display the research is complete and a robitic creature with two hands and two legs and one head appear in the floor of the lab in a particular costume. Believe it or nor for this research crores of rupees is spent by the Government. Even the silliest of Sci-Fi story has a minimum premises of science but this kind story is not only ridiculous, preposterous too.
Anyway this robotic creature starts showing all of its supernatural/magical power. In the meantime while going an international science meet in North Bengal (can you believe this!!!) Tapas was kidnapped by Rajatava’s gang to get the password. Password for what nobody knows.
With the help of the super power robot, Tapas-Satabdi’s son starts doing better and better results in studies and sports and then the remaining part is to save Tapas Pal from the hand of baddies and the unidentified boss in silhouette with a distorted voice.
There is another where there is police officer Ranju (Sabyasachi Chakraborty) who is a neighbour. There is another neighbour Sayak. His story is attached with Ranju as he falls in love with Diya who is accidentally Ranju’s niece. This is the romantic part of the film. But this is so far from the main story and so loosely attached at times you will wonder what is the purpose of this chapter. Anyway you have to make a two and a half hour film – how the producer never asks.
The film has at least 6-7 songs which were not at all required by the storyline – at the end of the day you have to realize you are not making even a “Koi…Mil Gaya”.
