In our Hindi Film Industry we have so many makers who make out and out comedy films Starting from Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, David Dhawan, Priyadarshan, etc. Some make Wacky Comedy films like Bhagwan Dada, Kishore Kumar, I.S.Johar, Mehmood, etc. In between there are some makers like Sai Paranjpe, Kundan Shah, etc. but we also have some big names who tried their luck in making comedy films but failed miserably. Let’s find out where does Funny Foodie Man Kunal Vijaykar ‘s film Fruit and Nut belongs.
“Fruit and Nut” is story of a dumb wit looser named Jolly [Cyrus Broacha] who works for a Builder Khandhar Jala [Mahesh Manjrekar]. One day Jolly’s Colleuge Monica [Dia Mirza] is kidnapped by Maharaja Harry Holekar [Boman Irani] as he wants Monica and her team to get him the map of Mantralaya where he wants to plant a bomb as his palace lies beneath it. Jolly accidently saves Monica from Maharaja and both becomes best of friends. But Maharaja joins hand with Khandhar Jala and together they start the mission. On other side Jolly and Monica decides to join hands and save the city.
Story is simple and confusing. It has so many loopholes and loose ends. Screenplay is soo slow and boring. Some dialogs are witty and funny but still does not manage to hold you smile and interest in the film. Camera work is strictly average. Music is good and tries to have the feel of the film.
Kunal Vijaykar is a funny man but I guess it’s easy for him to crack joke and make you laugh than making a film which struggles to find a smile too. He tires his best to make a out and out wacky comedy but sadly the jokes lacked the punched and scenes looked forced for e.g. Cyrus struggling with his umbrella in rains!! Cyrus peeing in his boss office and whole office has a Blast!!. There are many such gross scenes which make you to walk towards the exit door.
Cyrus Broacha gave a good performance this year in 99, but out here he ham’s a lot. Dia Mirza looks good and regd acting sorry I dint see any. Boman Irani is wasted in such half baked role and his dialog “Nashta Kiya” which sounded funny initially started to tortute the ears till the end. Mahesh Manjrekar was the only one which managed to give you some smiles in the film thanks to his English interpretation of the dialogs, some were witty and some were funny too. Rajit Kapoor and others are just wasted.
So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?
Dum???? No dum in thus dry fruit and nut. Avoid eating it as this film joins in a different league of comedy films like Oh Darling yeh hai India, etc or maybe lower than that. Only stuff you carry back home after watching this film is Indigestion.
