Satyajit Ray made “Ganashatru” in 1989 & it released on 19th January, 1990. Ray’s second last feature film, “Ganashatru” fights for honesty & fights against the shattered social system with integrity & defiance. Ray made the celluloid adaptation of a Henrik Ibson short story & penned the screenplay himself. Barun Raha operated the camera after Soumendu Roy’s departure. Ashok Basu the art director & the ever trusted Dulal Dutta held the editing scissors. The film was produced by N. F. D. C. & distributed by Jagat Singh Dunar. Background music was created by Ray himself & it was volatile, vociferous & thought provoking. Soumitra Chattopadhyay depicted the upright character of Dr. Ashok Gupta. Ruma Guhathakurta. Mamata Shankar, Dhritiman Chattopadhyay. Dipankar Dey, Rajaram Yagnik & Shubhendu Chattopadhyay played other pivotal characters. Worth a watch!
