Anurag Kashyap is known for making his own identity in our Hindi Cinema. His films have been path-breaking and have portrayed for us plenty of unexplored genres which were missing in our films. Be it his best works like ‘Black Friday’, the unreleased ‘Paanch’, an Out-and-Out director’s film ‘No Smoking’, a political drama like ‘Gulaal’ or his popular film ‘Dev D’, all these films have something special and unseen for our Indian audience. His latest venture ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ features the tales of rural gang wars taking place in heartlands of India. It’s a challenging ... » read more

Anurag Kashyap’s Saga on the coal mafia of Dhanbad can be summed as a cult movie in this genre.

The story is of the rivalry between Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) and Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) and commences pre independence and gives a complete low down as to how the coal mafia emerged.

The Story by Zeishan Quadri is a basic Revenge Drama, but the screenplay is the biggest highlight which is very well written and each character is well defined, and the sub plots seamlessly merge with the main plot. The screenplay is tight and there is not a single ... » read more

The flip side of watching a popular movie much later than the released-week is that the opinions have already floated, expectations have been built...and in the era of social media, I don’t know of any way to insulate myself from the propaganda; the only way is to make a conscious effort while watching is to pretend that it’s a film I am watching about which I know nothing...and it takes some effort to do that!

To watch a film that has Manoj Bajpayee starring in it is synonymous to watching some hard-core stuff, for sure it won’t be a feel-good flick and gangs ... » read more

The wait for Gangs of Wasseypur is finally over. The movie which was in news for quiet a while has finally released. But did it live upto the expectations, the answer is it did. Without any doubt one of the best movies coming out of indian cinema. And the maverick Anurag Kashyap certainly delivers what he speaks.
At the heart of it GOW is a revenge saga set at the back drop of a place called Wasseypur and Dhanbad. Starting from the pre indepence era to around the 90s.
The aptly shown timelines along with the rural settings makes the movie an eye catching ... » read more

    GOW - my prediction!

Going by the trailer, online promos, and the media buzz on its critical acclaim at Cannes, it looks like this Anurag Kashyap movie is neither the usual kind of masala entertainer, and nor a typical film which has only violence and lust. The maverick director has worked really hard to make this film worth the watch. The actors, including Manoj Vajpayee, may not have the star power to draw audience to the theaters, but their power packed performance will make the movie special. However, due to the intense violence shown in the movie, it may not appeal to the family audience, ... » read more
