Okay, year-end confession time - I guess I am not going to like gory action hindi films any more..sigh..guess that's what months of passive intake of real terrorist violence thru the media up close does to you! Can I please not have any more depictions of senseless violent hammering out of innocent n beautiful human lives by those who care a damn about them?! I went to sleep last night after watching 'Ghajini' feeling not nice at all..and even had nightmares. But then that's personal. Lets get to the review.
Yes, perhaps its passe now to talk about how the biggest faux pas about the movie is that how "Ghajini' is not about Ghajini. I would also add that the missing action/thrill is that the hero and audience alike aren't exactly searching for Mr.Ghajini either till the end like either! The villain is in your face right through and you aren't exactly much scared by him..sigh.
Ghajini is simply Aamir's self obsession with his zeal to make a classy action hindi film. But action doens't just come from special effects, 8 packs, and shots of a 5 footer just raising his arms and whooshing off villains and the bad guys. He has to make you feel his need for revenge and that is where I think the story failed to connect. for me. Yes, I loved Asin as Kalpana, felt replused at her horrific death..but I wasn't quite floored by Sanjay's passion to revenge the killing of 'his love'...I was more like, what should I say feeling sorry for them both, deeply...but not so convinced by the central theme of revenge....Heath Ledger as the Joker in the Dark Knight is more convincing of why he doesnt know why he kills...a simple dialogue like'I am like the dog who just runs after cars but doesn't know why he is chasing them' says it all....Thats real action, guys...thats a hot-chocolate fudge with a cherry on top :-)
