Geetali Roy was born in Kolkata in February, 1945. Her father was Ramchandra Ray and mother was Amala Ray. Geetali passed her higher secondary examination from Giribala Balika Vidyalaya. Due to her busy actig schedule she have to leave her studies after that.
Director Mrinal Sen was her father’s friend. She made debut in “Pnnascha” in 1961 directed by Mrinal Sen. She acted in three Satyajit Ray films. These were “Mahapurush”, “Chamlata”, and “Ciriakhana”. Her acting in Charulata as “Mondar Bonthan was highly praised. She married director Salil Dutta in 1966 and there after she left acting. But after 20 years again she stood before camera and this time she was unable to impress the audience. She had also produced a few films.
