Golmaal 3 rating: 7 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 05 Nov 2010)

It’s been proven from last so many Diwali time, that films with stars, humor and entertainers have proved huge hit over the box office. Rohit Shetty and team started the Golmaal franchisee few years back and made a sequel to the super hit first part. Sadly the sequel was not up to the mark, but later he came back with All the best, which was quite hilarious and matched up the expectations. This year again the same team comes back with latest part of the Golmaal series, with more stars. So let’s find out that will it meet the expectations created by the earlier ones or just manage to cash in to the past glory.

Golmaal 3 is story of Pritam { Mithun Chakraborty} who lives with his three jobless sons Madhav {Arshad Warsi}, Lucky {Tusshar Kapoor} and Laxman {Kunal Khemu}. Pritam also has a past where he use to love Geeta {Ratna Pathak Shah} who now is mother of Gopal {Ajay Devan} and Laxman {Shreyas Talpade}. Gopal and Laxman along with Daboo {Kareena} runs a speed boat business at Goa beach. They face a competition by Madhav and his brothers and thus end up as rivalry between both the teams. Meanwhile Daboo discovers Pritams feelings for Geeta and tries to get them together. Pritam and Geeta decides to get married and hence starts the havoc created by their kids.

Story has a basic plot inspired by Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha and Umesh Mehra’s Hamare Tumare, but if Khatta Meetha was sweet and Hamare Tumare was emotional drama, this one is total Rohit Shetty style. The writers have mixed the Golmaal team very well in the basic plot, which goes well with the theme. Screenplay is crisp and witty, there are some superb highlighting moments like Johnny Lever Boat scene, The whole Disco Dancer tribute, Mithun – Prem Chopra Scenes, Ajay Devgans Anger over finger, The whole Marriage scenes, The Silent Comedy Scenes, The Mithun bashing by kids, etc. All these moments are hilarious and gives your money total paisa vasool feel. The one liner as usual in Rohit Shetty films are superb. Camera work is ok and the sets are bit loud.

Music is big disappointment and does not anything new to offer. You console yourself with the original title song. The Disco Dancer and Yaad Aa Raha hai are fantastic.

Rohit Shetty and team have great sense of humor, which went bit hay way in Golmaal 2, but was in full form in All the best. Out here it falls bit low than All the best, but far ahead of the part 2. The new addition of Mithun adds up fresh sparks to the team. Like in his all films the climax is full of chaos and loads of laughter, out here its bit low on the humor front, some more gags out there would had made the movie more merrier. Still a good new version of the old man marring old woman and both kids getting together theme in Rohit Shetty style.

Ajay Devgan as angry psycho is nice and well supported by Arshad Warsi who was wasted in part 2. Shreyas, Kunal and Tusshar are ok. Kareena is good and has improved a lot in her comical roles. Ratna Pathak Shah, Sanjay Mishra and others are good. Mithun is the star of all and had given a memorable comical performance in this film. Watch out for his Disco Dancer Dance at this age too he rocks.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hai kaafi dum hai aur total entertainer hai. The movie goes very well with the spirit of Diwali and gives you smile and laughter at regular basis. As they say two is a company and three is a crowd, out here the crowd will be there in the cinema halls and maybe for long time. Enjoy the entertainer.
