Grahasthi is a family drama, a story of sacrifise and devotion. Shankar Babu, the head of the family, believed that the family was built totally on the pillars of love and devotion. Even his close friend Karim Khan believed that. Shankar had two daughters and a son. They were Sudha, Guddi and Rakesh. One day Shankar stole ten thousand rupees from the bank in which he worked. He was arrested and sent to jail. Sudha the eldest daughter of the family loved Deepak who was a pilot. Everything was set for the marriage of Sudha and Deepak. Now it fell on Sudha to tend to the family. And she did it with the dedication taught to her by her father. Sudha's brother Rakesh got a job and married Kalpana. Kalpana was the daughter of a rich businessman. She did not like Sudha. Soon Shankar Babu died of cancer. Sudha, Rakesh and their other sister did not know about this incident. When Sudha came to know about her father's death, she accidentally fell down a flight of steps and became blind. One day Lalaji, the owner of the house tried to molest Sudha, but there came Karim and Deepak and they saved Sudha from Lalaji. At the same time Lala wanted to kill Deepak by a knife but Karim came in between and sacrificed his life to save Deepak. In the hospital, he donated his eyes to Sudha and he died. After the eye operation Sudha could see through Karim's eyes. The film ends showing the marriage of Sudha and Deepak.
