Green Zone synopsis (Story)
It is 2003, and U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Matt Damon) and his team of inspectors have been dispatched by their commanders to find weapons believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but instead stumble upon an elaborate cover-up that subverts the purpose of their mission. After the viewing one might tend to think that the director Paul Greengrass has given much better and more gripping stuff in his previous ventures with Matt Damon, but that doesnt take away the fact that "Green Zone" does arouse a fair amount of interest from the very beginning. A wonderfully shot film, as to make u feel that u r almost in the midst of the real action happening in the bylanes of baghdad...the narrative does drag a little in the middle, but holds itself together thru a brilliant and raw climax where General..oops! i almost gave away the story. The traffic shots of the American convoy rolling under an overpass and encountering a traffic jam as panicked crowds flee Baghdad were shot in Spain, on a brand new highway which was not yet open to the public.
Ravi Chandrasekaran, the author of the book "Imperial Life in the Emerald City" was the former Baghdad Bureau Chief with the Washington Post.
